Job Title - Microsoft Dynamics Project Operations Functional Consultant

Role Summary
We're looking for a D365 Project Operations Functional Consultant to lead the design and configuration of a Dynamics 365 P&O implementation for a renewable energy project development client.
The engagement covers the full project lifecycle — from land acquisition through interconnection and financial close — and requires a consultant who can assess where native D365 P&O capabilities meet business needs versus where custom development or hybrid third-party integration is required.
Key Responsibilities
Lead requirements gathering and fit-gap analysis across the client's core project workflows, mapping each to native D365 P&O functionality, custom extensions, or hybrid integrations
Configure and implement D365 P&O modules covering:
Project tracking & stage-gate management — native workflow and milestone configuration
Real estate & landowner management — custom entity/data model design where native P&O lacks land lease and parcel tracking
Environmental & permitting workflows — native configuration of compliance tracking and document approvals
Interconnection queue management — custom development to model utility-specific interconnection application and study tracking
Procurement & EPC contractor management — native D365 P&O procurement and vendor workflows
Budget tracking & financials — native budget-vs-actual reporting tied to project stage-gates
Stage hand-offs & approvals — native approval workflow configuration across development-to-construction-to-operations transitions
Document management & file infrastructure — hybrid design combining native D365 document storage with third-party DMS integration for large-scale project documentation
Translate renewable energy development processes (land, permitting, interconnection, EPC) into D365 P&O functional design documents
Partner with technical/development consultants to scope custom entities, Power Platform extensions, or third-party connectors where native fit is insufficient
Support UAT, data migration planning, and end-user training for project teams
Advise the client on trade-offs between native configuration and custom build, balancing long-term platform maintainability against short-term timeline pressure
What We're Looking For
5-6+ years of hands-on D365 Project Operations (or D365 F&O Project Management/Accounting) functional consulting experience
Proven experience running fit-gap analysis and translating business workflows into D365 configuration and functional design specs
Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Apps/Power Automate) for scoping custom/hybrid extensions
Domain exposure to project-based industries — renewable energy, infrastructure, construction, or capital projects — strongly preferred given the land, permitting, and interconnection-specific workflows involved
Microsoft Dynamics 365 certification (e.g., MB-300, MB-310, or Project Operations Functional Consultant Associate) preferred
Strong client-facing communication skills — this role sits directly between business stakeholders and the technical delivery team
