Mechanical Design Engineer

About P.L. Robotics
At P.L. Robotics, we are building the next generation of industrial robotics in India. We design and manufacture collaborative robots (Cobots), SCARA robots, and advanced robotic automation systems for real-world industrial applications.
We are looking for Mechanical Design Engineers who don’t just want to work on CAD models but want to build real machines and see their designs come to life.
What You’ll Work On
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work closely with our robotics R&D team across the complete product development cycle:
- Concept development and mechanical design
- 3D CAD modeling and assembly design
- Mechanical calculations and basic simulations
- Prototype development and assembly
- Manufacturing and vendor coordination
- Testing, validation, and design improvements
- Mechanical integration with electrical and software systems
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for robotic systems using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar CAD tools
- Create detailed manufacturing drawings with GD&T, tolerances, and specifications
- Apply DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) principles
- Perform basic mechanical calculations and support FEA/simulation
- Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers for fabrication and component sourcing
- Support prototype assembly, testing, debugging, and design iterations
- Prepare BOMs, assembly drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation
- Work closely with electrical and software engineers for system integration
- Participate in robot assembly, inspection, and basic QC/testing
- Conduct technical research and literature reviews to improve existing designs
- Take ownership of assigned mechanical design projects from concept to prototype
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree or currently pursuing a degree in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Production Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering or a related field
Technical Skills
Strong fundamentals in:
- Engineering Mechanics
- Strength of Materials
- Machine Design
- Manufacturing Processes
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent CAD software
- Basic understanding of FEA and mechanical simulation
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Understanding of tolerance stack-up
- Understanding of DFM/DFA principles
- Ability to read and create mechanical engineering drawings
