Position Overview
We are seeking a highly competent and technical Machine Shop Production Supervisor to oversee our manufacturing operations. Holding a B.E. in Mechanical or Production Engineering, you will lead our shop floor teams across a 3-shift rotational schedule.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise in machining processes, metallurgy, fabrication, and surface treatments, alongside a strong mastery of Quality Management Systems (QMS) to drive continuous improvement in one-piece, batch, and job-work manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Production & Workflow Management: Supervise and optimize daily shop floor operations across a 3-shift rotational schedule. Seamlessly transition workflows between shifts to maintain high efficiency.
- Production Types: Oversee and process components tailored for one-piece, batch machining, and custom job-work manufacturing setups.
- Technical Oversight: Monitor and guide complex operations involving milling, drilling, CAM programming, and grinding. Ensure proper setups and cycle times.
- Fabrication & Welding: Supervise the welding, fabrication, and subsequent precision machining of large, complex fabricated structures.
- Material Optimization: Apply advanced understanding of the machinability of various materials—specifically alloy sheets of steel (EN series, ASTM steels) and aluminium—to adjust tooling, feeds, and speeds optimally.
- Post-Processing & Metallurgy: Oversee component finishing requirements, ensuring proper application of surface treatments, coatings, and heat treatments according to client specifications.
- Quality Management (QMS): Champion the Quality Management System (QMS) on the shop floor. Utilize QMS tools and metrics to identify bottlenecks, reduce scrap, and implement continuous improvements across all production processes.
- Team Leadership & Communication: Provide clear direction, training, and performance feedback to machinists and fabricators. Ensure seamless shift handovers through clear verbal and written reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Diploma/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering is strictly required.
- Experience: 3 to 6 years of proven experience in a similar Machine Shop Production Supervisor or Team Lead role.
- Process Expertise: Robust knowledge of milling, drilling, CAM, grinding, welding, and structural fabrication.
- Material Knowledge: Solid understanding of EN series and ASTM steels, alloy steel sheets, and aluminium metallurgy/machinability.
- System Knowledge: Proven experience working within and utilizing QMS systems for operational excellence.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills (fluent in reading, writing, and speaking) to effectively bridge the gap between engineering, management, and operators.
Working Conditions
- Must be fully flexible to work a 3-shift, rotational schedule (including morning, evening, and night shifts).
