Role Purpose(s)
The Lead system Engineer is responsible for the administration, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance monitoring and operational support of enterprise application middleware platforms.
The role will primarily support IBM WebSphere and Oracle WebLogic environments, with exposure to other application servers and web technologies such as Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat, JBoss and NGINX.
The candidate will also be responsible for middleware security configuration, including SSL/TLS certificates, Java KeyStores (JKS), truststores and keystores.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the administration, configuration, optimization, and operational support of enterprise WebLogic and WebSphere middleware environments.
- Drive middleware platform upgrades, patching, migrations, cloning, provisioning, and lifecycle management activities.
- Establish and govern middleware standards, operational procedures, security controls, hardening requirements, and best practices in alignment with organizational policies and technology standards.
- Ensure the availability, performance, capacity, and security of middleware platforms and hosted.
- Provide technical leadership and oversight for middleware-related projects, incidents, problems, platform changes, and technology refresh activities, including complex escalations and root-cause analysis.
- Lead SSL/TLS certificate and Java security configuration activities, including JKS keystores, truststores, certificate chains, and secure communication between middleware, web, and external systems.
- Ensure the security, compliance, and operational health of supporting Linux infrastructure.
- Leverage cloud technologies and provide technical support for middleware workloads deployed in or integrated with cloud environments, with AWS or Microsoft Azure experience being advantageous.
- Drive operational excellence and knowledge management through standardized runbooks, technical documentation, automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with application, cloud, security, network, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable, secure, scalable, and automated technology solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams and support 24x7 operations, including production escalations, standby duties, major incidents, and project deployments when required.
Job Responsibilities & Duties
- Install, configure, administer, and support Oracle WebLogic Server and IBM WebSphere Application Server environments.
- Configure and maintain middleware domains, servers, clusters, JVMs, data sources, connection pools, application deployments, and related platform components.
- Perform middleware environment provisioning, cloning, configuration, and technology refresh activities.
- Support related web and application server technologies such as Apache HTTP Server, NGINX, Tomcat, and JBoss/WildFly where required.
- Perform Middleware platform’s patching, upgrades, migrations, cloning, and lifecycle management activities.
- Support vulnerability remediation and security patching activities for middleware platforms
- Troubleshoot application, middleware, JVM, deployment, connectivity, networking, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for recurring incidents.
- Support production incidents and provide technical escalation for complex middleware issues.
- Implement and maintain SSL/TLS certificates, JKS keystores, truststores, certificate chains, and secure communication configurations and perform certificate renewal, installation, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Administer and maintain Linux servers supporting middleware platforms, including system hardening, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and security compliance.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and Ansible playbooks to automate middleware provisioning, configuration, deployment, patching, and operational activities.
- Support middleware platforms and integrations within AWS and Microsoft Azure cloud environments.
- Good understanding of cloud networking, compute, security, monitoring, and deployment concepts is advantageous.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, runbooks, technical documentation, and knowledge articles.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams on middleware administration, troubleshooting, security, automation, and best practices.
- Collaborate with application, cloud, security, network, database, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable technology solutions.

Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) (Good to have)
- AWS Certified: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (Good to have)
- Oracle WebLogic Server 12c Administrator Certified Professional (Good to have)
- Redhat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) (Good to have)
Working Experience Requirements
• Minimum 5–8 years of progressive experience in WebLogic middleware administration, platform operations, and infrastructure management.
• Strong and proven experience managing WebLogic, WebSphere and other middleware products.
• Strong experience in Linux system administration, server hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
• Good to have experience in managing AWS and Azure cloud environments including compute, networking, storage, security, and monitoring services.
• Good to have experience in Automation tools, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD and Ansible.
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, incident management, and mentoring engineering teams.

Preferable skills
