We are seeking a highly skilled Lead AWS Data Engineer to design, build, and support scalable data platforms and pipelines on AWS. This role requires strong hands-on development experience combined with the ability to drive technical design decisions, mentor team members, and collaborate with stakeholders across multiple business functions.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AWS data services, modern data engineering practices, ETL/ELT development, and data warehousing concepts. The individual will be expected to independently own complex data initiatives from design through production support while ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance data architectures supporting enterprise analytics, reporting, and operational data needs. • Build and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines using AWS services including Glue, MWAA (Apache Airflow), Lambda, Redshift, DMS, S3, Kinesis, DynamoDB, and RDS. • Develop data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration frameworks using Python, PySpark, and SQL. • Design and implement batch and near real-time data processing solutions. • Optimize data pipelines, Redshift workloads, and AWS resources for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency. • Implement data quality, validation, reconciliation, monitoring, and alerting frameworks to ensure data integrity. • Perform root cause analysis and resolve production issues across the data platform. • Participate in solution design and architecture discussions, providing recommendations on data models, integration patterns, and technology choices. • Define and enforce engineering best practices including code reviews, testing, documentation, deployment standards, and operational procedures. • Collaborate with architects, business analysts, product owners, and downstream consumers to translate business requirements into technical solutions. • Design and implement dimensional data models, data marts, and enterprise data warehouse solutions. • Support CI/CD implementations and infrastructure automation initiatives for data engineering workloads. • Mentor team members and contribute to knowledge sharing, technical reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering, with significant experience building AWS based data platforms. • Strong hands-on expertise with AWS services including Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, DMS, MWAA (Apache Airflow), Kinesis, DynamoDB, and RDS. • Advanced proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL. • Strong experience designing and developing enterprise-scale ETL/ELT solutions. • Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, dimensional modelling, normalization, denormalization, partitioning, and performance optimization. • Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Apache Airflow or AWS Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA). • Experience with CI/CD processes, Git-based version control, and automated deployment practices. • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform. • Hands-on experience working with structured, semi-structured, and JSON-based datasets. • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance tuning capabilities. • Experience supporting production environments and managing operational incidents. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications • AWS Certification (Solutions Architect or equivalent). • Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming data solutions. • Experience designing reusable data frameworks and platform components. • Exposure to data governance, security, and compliance best practices. • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery environments. • Experience working with eCommerce, Retail, or Digital Commerce data domains, including customer, product, order, inventory, and marketing datasets.
