Organisation Description The Madras Crocodile Bank Trust/Centre for Herpetology is one of the largest reptile zoos in India and among the oldest NGO's in India. Its mission is to conserve reptiles and their habitats through education, scientific research, and captive breeding. The organization focuses primarily on Indian species and ecosystems, working through both in-situ and ex-situ conservation efforts. Team members collaborate across research, animal care, and public education to support long-term conservation outcomes. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Laboratory Assistant role based at MCBT. The Laboratory Assistant will support daily laboratory operations, including preparing samples, maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, and following established protocols for testing and analysis. Responsibilities include assisting with data collection, recording and organizing results, and contributing to quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency. The role involves working closely with Veterinarian and animal care staff to process biological samples, maintain inventories of reagents and supplies, and follow safety and biosecurity guidelines. The Laboratory Assistant will also help with basic documentation, report preparation, and coordination with team members.
Qualifications
- Strong laboratory skills, including basic laboratory techniques and safe handling of biological materials.
- Candidates should be based in close proximity to MCBT to ensure easy daily commuting and operational availability.
- Experience working with laboratory equipment and ability to perform routine maintenance and calibration.
- Effective communication skills for documenting procedures, reporting findings, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of quality control practices to maintain data integrity and compliance with laboratory standards.
- Relevant educational background in biotechnology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to follow established protocols and safety procedures.
- Interest in herpetology, wildlife conservation, or zoological research; prior experience in a research or diagnostic lab is an advantage.
