About the Role
Monk Spaces is looking for a Junior Consultant – Packaging Regulations & EPR to work on packaging compliance and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) projects for international clients.
The role will involve working across multiple regulatory markets, with an initial focus on the European Union and the United Kingdom, and the potential to expand into other jurisdictions, including the United States.
You will work on frameworks such as the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), UK packaging EPR, country-specific European EPR schemes, and emerging US packaging EPR regulations such as California SB 54.
This is a remote role, with occasional travel for client meetings, workshops, events or project requirements.
What You’ll Work On
- Research and interpret packaging and EPR regulations across different jurisdictions.
- Work on the EU PPWR and country-specific EPR requirements across European markets.
- Research and support compliance with UK packaging EPR requirements.
- Research emerging packaging regulations in other markets, including US state-level EPR frameworks.
- Analyse client packaging portfolios and classify packaging according to applicable regulatory categories.
- Develop EPR fee, exposure and compliance calculations using packaging and sales data.
- Research and apply eco-modulation criteria and fee structures across different markets.
- Track regulatory changes, implementation timelines, reporting requirements and upcoming compliance obligations.
- Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear and practical recommendations for clients.
- Prepare technical documentation, calculations, reports and other client deliverables.
- Work with clients to understand their products, packaging structures, markets and compliance requirements.
- Build and maintain structured regulatory datasets and calculation frameworks for different jurisdictions.
Who We’re Looking For
- 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in environmental compliance, EPR, packaging, waste management, environmental consulting, regulatory research or a related field.
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, sustainability, public policy, law, packaging or a related discipline.
- Strong research skills and the ability to read and interpret regulations, legislation and technical guidance.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and comfort working with large and complex datasets.
- Good quantitative and analytical skills.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- High attention to detail, particularly when working with regulatory classifications, calculations and documentation.
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and work across multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
This is a technical regulatory and compliance role, not an ESG reporting role. Candidates whose experience is primarily in ESG reporting, sustainability disclosures, BRSR, GRI or similar reporting frameworks should not apply.
Good to Have
Prior exposure to any of the following would be useful:
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
- Packaging or plastic waste regulations
- Packaging compliance and reporting
- EU or UK environmental regulations
- Producer responsibility filings
- Eco-modulation and EPR fee calculations
- Product or environmental compliance
- Regulatory or environmental consulting
Prior experience with PPWR specifically is not mandatory. We are looking for someone with relevant regulatory or compliance experience who can understand new regulations quickly and apply them to real client requirements.
