Japanese Language Trainer – JFT, SSW & JLPT Programs
Location: Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
About the Role
Career Consultz is looking for an experienced Japanese Language Trainer to join our Japan-focused language training and international career programs in Vijayawada.
The role will primarily focus on preparing candidates for JFT-Basic, Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) opportunities, JLPT examinations, Japanese employer interviews, and long-term career opportunities in Japan.
We are specifically looking for trainers who have prior experience in JFT and SSW-oriented Japanese language training and who are capable of independently designing and delivering structured Japanese-language programs.
In addition to SSW candidates, the trainer may also be responsible for preparing graduates, engineers, IT professionals and other candidates pursuing white-collar career opportunities in Japan, including training students progressively up to JLPT N2 level where required.
Candidates with JLPT N1 or N2 certification will be strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct full-time classroom-based Japanese language training for candidates preparing for careers in Japan.
- Train and prepare candidates specifically for the Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese (JFT-Basic).
- Provide Japanese-language training for candidates pursuing opportunities under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program.
- Prepare candidates for JLPT examinations from foundation levels through N5, N4, N3 and, where required, N2.
- Train candidates pursuing professional and white-collar employment opportunities in Japan, including graduates, engineers, IT professionals and other skilled professionals.
- Teach Japanese grammar, vocabulary, Kanji, reading, writing, listening and conversational communication.
- Develop strong practical Japanese communication skills required for workplaces and daily life in Japan.
- Prepare candidates for interviews with Japanese employers and recruitment organisations.
- Conduct Japanese-language mock interviews and workplace communication sessions.
- Conduct regular assessments, mock JFT/JLPT examinations and student progress evaluations.
- Identify candidates requiring additional support and develop appropriate improvement plans.
- Train candidates in Japanese workplace communication, etiquette, discipline, cultural expectations and professional behaviour.
Curriculum Development
An important part of this role will be the ability to independently design and structure the Japanese-language curriculum according to the requirements of different candidate groups.
The trainer should be capable of:
- Developing structured lesson plans, modules, assessments and training schedules.
- Designing programs specifically around JFT-Basic and SSW requirements.
- Developing progressive learning pathways from beginner Japanese through JLPT N2 where required.
- Preparing customised training programs depending on whether candidates are pursuing SSW, technical, professional or white-collar opportunities.
- Developing teaching materials, worksheets, mock examinations and revision programs.
- Periodically modifying the curriculum based on candidate performance and examination outcomes.
The preferred curriculum framework is Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan, particularly because of its practical communication focus and relevance to candidates preparing for JFT-Basic.
Experience using Minna no Nihongo or similar recognised Japanese-language teaching methodologies is also valuable.
However, the trainer should not be dependent solely on textbooks and must be capable of building an effective curriculum independently based on the learning objectives of each batch.
Required Candidate Profile
Candidates should have:
- Prior experience in JFT-Basic training and preparation – required.
- Prior experience with SSW-focused Japanese language training – required.
- Strong proficiency in spoken and written Japanese.
- Previous professional experience teaching Japanese language.
- Strong understanding of Japanese-language examination preparation.
- Ability to independently develop curriculum, lesson plans and assessments.
- Experience using Irodori is strongly preferred.
- Experience using Minna no Nihongo is desirable.
- Ability to train students across different proficiency levels.
- Ability to prepare candidates from beginner level up to JLPT N2, depending on the program.
- Good understanding of Japanese workplace communication and culture.
- Strong classroom management, communication and student-assessment skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- JLPT N1 or N2 certification strongly preferred.
- Experience preparing candidates for JLPT N5–N2.
- Experience preparing candidates for Japanese employer interviews.
- Experience training candidates intending to work or study in Japan.
- Exposure to SSW sectors such as caregiving, hospitality, food service, manufacturing, construction or other designated industries.
- Experience training engineers, IT professionals or other candidates pursuing professional employment opportunities in Japan.
What We Are Looking For
We are not looking only for a conventional Japanese-language teacher.
We are looking for a trainer who can take ownership of the complete Japanese-language learning journey — from curriculum design and classroom delivery to assessments, JFT/JLPT preparation, interview readiness and ultimately preparing candidates to confidently live and work in Japan.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable training both:
SSW candidates, who require practical Japanese and JFT preparation for skilled employment opportunities, and
Professional / white-collar candidates, who may require significantly higher Japanese proficiency, potentially progressing up to JLPT N2, for careers in areas such as engineering, IT and other professional sectors.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on experience, Japanese-language proficiency, qualifications, and relevant JFT/SSW training expertise.
- Candidates from anywhere in India may apply, provided they are willing to relocate to Vijayawada and work full-time on-site.
