Job Title: HR Generalist (Media & Entertainment)
• Location: India – Mumbai
• Department: Human Resources
• Employment Type: Full-Time
• Reporting To: Head of HR / Manager – Human Resources
• Experience Level: 3–5 Years
Job Brief
We are looking for a highly structured, process-oriented HR Generalist to join our fast-paced media company [Insert Company Name]. Unlike a standard creative-facing role, this position is focused heavily on HR operations, heavy statutory compliances, process documentation, and Compensation & Benefits (C&B). You will be responsible for building standardized HR workflows from scratch, maintaining strict legal compliance across a diverse media workforce (including permanent employees and creative freelancers), and seamlessly coordinating payroll inputs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Compliance Management (Heavy Focus)
• Ensure 100% adherence to all Central and State-level Indian labor laws (e.g., Factories Act/Shops & Establishment Act, Minimum Wages Act, Payment of Bonus Act).
• Oversee and audit all statutory filings including Provident Fund (PF), Employee State Insurance (ESI), Gratuity, and Professional Tax (PT).
• Act as a core member or coordinator for the Internal Committee (IC) under the POSH Act, ensuring continuous employee training and legal documentation.
• Manage legal compliance, work orders, and risk mitigation for dynamic project-based media staff, contractors, and production crews.
2. HR Process Documentation & SOPs
• Design, write, and implement comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the entire employee lifecycle.
• Build and update the official Company Employee Handbook to align with evolving media business structures and remote/hybrid work policies.
• Create and formalize process maps for onboarding, offboarding, performance appraisals, asset tracking, and disciplinary actions.
3. Payroll Coordination & Administration
• Consolidate monthly attendance, leave trackers, overtime, and variable production-based payouts to deliver error-free payroll inputs.
• Liaison with external payroll vendors or internal finance teams to ensure accurate, timely processing of salaries.
• Manage the full Full & Final (F&F) settlement process for exiting employees, minimizing compliance lag or disputes.
4. Compensation & Benefits (C&B)
• Structure tax-efficient salary components (e.g., HRA, LTA, Special Allowance) for diverse pay scales in line with Indian Income Tax guidelines.
• Manage the administration of corporate group health insurance, wellness plans, and life insurance policies.
• Conduct benchmark studies within the Indian media industry to ensure competitive remuneration and incentive programs.
5. Shared Recruitment & Employee Lifecycle
• Handle partial recruitment support, stepping in to screen candidates or manage interviews during peak production/hiring seasons.
• Execute day-to-day HR operations, including maintaining employee digital records within the HRMS and managing formal internal communications.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related fields (MBA/Postgraduate in HR or Finance/Labor Laws is highly preferred).
• Experience: 3 to 5 years of core HR generalist or HR operations experience. Prior exposure to a media house, production agency, or client-servicing environment is a major advantage.
• Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables for payroll/data tracking) and hands-on experience with modern HRMS platforms (e.g., Keka, Darwinbox, GreytHR).
• Core Competencies:
• Strong expertise in Indian statutory compliance and labor laws.
• Exceptional technical writing capability for drafting strict corporate policy documentation.
• High mathematical and analytical precision for managing compensation components.
To finalize this draft, tell me:
• Do you use a specific HRMS software (like GreytHR, Keka, etc.) that I should mention?
• Is this role for a single office location or managing compliances across multiple states in India?
