Today, Our Client has nearly 3,500 students across undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive programs, with almost half being experienced professionals. Spread across nearly 5 lakh square feet in Gurgaon and Manesar, the institution houses the PwC Center for Generative AI, a Bloomberg Lab, Gurgaon’s premier maker space, AI and robotics infrastructure, advanced bioengineering workshops, and startup incubation spaces, while also expanding into areas such as bioengineering and genetic engineering. The institution is chaired by Manoj Kohli, former CEO of Bharti Airtel and former Country Head of SoftBank India. Its leadership ecosystem includes Vivek Gambhir, Pankaj Bansal, Sanjiv Bikhchandani, Amitabh Kant, and 30+ other founders, CEOs, investors, and policymakers who contribute to teaching and institution building. Our Client’s flagship postgraduate program has recorded the highest average salary among MBA-equivalent programs in India, with graduates placed at firms such as Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Google, and Microsoft. The institution has also built one of the country’s strongest student startup ecosystems, with 10+ students pitching on Shark Tank India and 20+ students raising external funding for their ventures, alongside several successful creators and internet entrepreneurs.
About The Role
As the Head of Counsellors, you will lead the team of admissions counsellors who serve as a student’s first meaningful window into Our Client. This is a high-ownership leadership role at the intersection of people leadership, student experience and operational excellence.
You will be responsible for the performance and growth of the counselling team — guiding their day-to-day effectiveness, ensuring that every student who reaches out receives a timely and thoughtful response, and supporting the team in helping prospective students and their families make well-informed decisions about their education.
The role calls for a hands-on leader who leads from the front — someone who can inspire and develop a team, use data to understand what is working and what needs attention, remove obstacles quickly, and build a culture of ownership, discipline and continuous improvement.
If you enjoy building and leading high-performing, people-centric teams, care deeply about the quality of every student interaction, and take pride in your team’s outcomes as your own, this role is for you.
Role Expectations
- Lead Team Performance
- Ensure that every student enquiry receives a timely, thoughtful and complete response, so no prospective student is left without guidance.
- Own the day-to-day performance and effectiveness of the counselling team, ensuring consistent, high-quality engagement with every student.
- Set clear objectives and daily working rhythms for the team, track progress, and step in early to support counsellors.
- Lead & Develop the Team End-to-End
- Manage the counselling team end-to-end — hiring, onboarding, goal-setting, reviews and day-to-day people management.
- Identify development needs, run regular training and enablement, and build a strong bench of future team leaders.
- Ownership of Outcomes
- Coach counsellors on the craft of empathetic, consultations— listening carefully, understanding each student’s aspirations, and guiding them with clarity and honesty.
- Step in personally on important or complex conversations with students and families to ensure they receive the clarity and guidance they need.
- Continuously refine processes to make the admissions experience smoother for students and more effective for the team.
- Analyse, Report & Improve
- Track and analyse team and admissions metrics to understand what is working well and where students need more support.
- Report team performance and key insights to leadership with clear, data-backed recommendations.
- Plan Capacity & Manage High-Volume Engagement
- Plan and manage the day-to-day productivity of a large counselling team operating at high daily interaction volumes, ensuring capacity always matches incoming student demand.
- Forecast demand around peak periods such as application deadlines and intake cycles, and plan rosters, workloads and priorities so no student waits for a response.
- Monitor real-time activity and responsiveness, set clear productivity benchmarks, and reallocate effort quickly to keep the team consistently on-pace.
Ideal Candidate
- A genuine interest in education and in helping young people make important decisions about their future.
- A strong, empathetic people leader who can bring out the best in a student-facing team while holding a high bar on quality.
- 6+ years of experience in student engagement, admissions, counselling, or other relationship-driven, customer-facing roles, with at least 2-3 years in a team leadership position.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the credibility to lead meaningful conversations with students and parents.
- Comfort with data — able to read reports, spot trends, and make thoughtful, evidence-based decisions.
- A humble, coachable and growth-oriented mindset — someone who is always ready to learn, take feedback and get better.
What you can expect in return
- A high-ownership leadership role with direct impact on the growth of one of India’s fastest-growing new-age universities.
- The opportunity to build and lead a high-performing team from the front, with real autonomy to shape how it works.
- Exposure to a world-class leadership ecosystem of founders, CEOs, investors and policymakers.
- The chance to directly shape who joins Our Client and, in turn, help build the next generation of its community.
Why This Role Matters
For many students, a counsellor is their first real conversation with Our Client — the moment a name becomes a place they can picture their future in. The team that leads those conversations is only as strong as the person leading them.
As the Head of Counsellors, you will shape the team that helps thousands of students and their families make one of the most important decisions of their lives. Every counsellor you develop, every process you build and every goal you deliver contributes to a better student experience — and to building the next generation of the Our Client community.
If you love leading people, building teams and creating real impact, we would love to hear from you.
