The Business Development Head (Research) will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing research grants, consultancy assignments, andcollaborative projects from government agencies, international development organizations, multilateral institutions, foundations, corporates, and other funding bodies. The incumbent will play a key role in expanding the University's research portfolio by leading proposal development, fostering strategic partnerships, and coordinating with faculties and research teams to generate high-quality funding opportunities in the areas of health systems, public health, healthcare management, rural development, and allied sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Research Business Development & Resource Mobilization
- Identify and track national and international funding opportunities, grants,
- tenders, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Expressions of Interest (EOIs), and consultancy assignments.
- Develop and implement strategies for increasing externally funded research and consultancy projects.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective funding opportunities aligned with the University's research priorities.
- Support institutional efforts to enhance research funding and revenue generation.
Proposal Development & Grant Writing
- Lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of high-quality research proposals, concept notes, grant applications, and consultancy bids.
- Coordinate with faculty members, research centers, and subject matter experts to develop competitive proposals.
- Ensure compliance with donor guidelines, technical requirements, budgets, timelines, and submission procedures.
- Facilitate the preparation of project budgets, logical frameworks, work plans, and monitoring frameworks.
Partnership Development & Networking
- Establish and strengthen relationships with government departments, bilateral and multilateral agencies, NGOs, foundations, CSR organizations, and development partners.
- Represent the University in meetings, conferences, workshops, and networking forums.
- Identify opportunities for strategic collaborations, consortium building, and institutional partnerships.
- Develop and maintain a database of funding agencies, donors, and partner organizations.
Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a liaison between funding agencies, faculty members, research teams, and administrative departments.
- Coordinate internal proposal review processes and ensure timely submission of applications.
- Support contract negotiations, MoUs, and partnership agreements related to research and consultancy projects.
- Monitor proposal outcomes and maintain records of submissions, awards, and funding trends.
Market Intelligence & Research
- Conduct environmental scanning and market research to identify emerging funding trends and thematic priorities.
- Analyze donor strategies, government policies, and development sector priorities relevant to health and development research.
- Generate periodic reports on funding opportunities, proposal success rates, and business development activities.
Institutional Support
- Contribute to strengthening institutional systems for research management and grant administration.
- Organize workshops and capacity-building sessions on proposal writing, grant management, and donor engagement.
- Support branding and visibility initiatives related to research and consultancy activities.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate degree in Management, Social Sciences, Public Health, Health Management, Development Studies, Rural Management, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in research business development, grant writing, proposal development, donor engagement, or consultancy project acquisition.
- Experience working with consulting organizations, research institutions, universities development agencies, or public health organizations.
- Proven experience in health sector projects, research grants, consultancy assignments, and donor-funded programs.
- Familiarity with funding mechanisms of government agencies, international organizations, foundations, and CSR programs.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Excellent proposal writing, grant writing, and business communication skills.
- Strong networking, relationship-building, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Understanding of research methodologies and development sector programs.
- Knowledge of public health, healthcare management, health systems, rural development, or social sector research.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and proposal management tools.
