Founding Engineer – AI & MobileFirst Engineering Hire | Stealth AI StartupOne role. Ten hats. Zero bureaucracy.
We are building a stealth AI-native consumer startup at the intersection of voice, learning and careers.
We are looking for one exceptional engineer who wants to build the entire product with us—from the first line of code to thousands of users.
We believe in using AI wherever it can make us faster and better—even this JD was created with AI. What matters to us is not whether you use AI, but how intelligently you use it.
You will be our first engineering hire. There is no large engineering team, no complicated hierarchy and no ten-person approval process. You will work directly with the founders and build the product end-to-end for both iOS and Android.
This is not a role where you will receive neatly written tickets and spend six months building one small feature. You will think about the product, design its architecture, write the code, integrate the AI, deploy the application, study user behaviour, fix what breaks and help us build the company.
It is effectively ten roles combined into one:
- Mobile engineer.
- Backend engineer.
- AI engineer.
- Product engineer.
- System architect.
- DevOps engineer.
- Data and analytics owner.
- QA owner.
- Security owner.
- Future engineering leader.

What you will build
You will take complete ownership of building and launching our AI-powered mobile application on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
You will:
- Build the complete iOS and Android application using React Native/Expo.
- Design and develop the backend architecture and APIs.
- Build AI-powered voice and conversational experiences.
- Integrate speech-to-text, large language models and text-to-speech systems.
- Build user onboarding, assessments, progress tracking and personalised experiences.
- Develop reliable prompt, evaluation and feedback systems.
- Create low-latency audio and real-time interaction pipelines.
- Set up databases, authentication, storage and application security.
- Own cloud infrastructure, deployment, monitoring and performance.
- Implement product analytics and understand how users behave.
- Test, debug and improve the application continuously.
- Manage App Store and Play Store releases.
- Make important technical and product decisions directly with the founders.
- Eventually help hire and lead the engineering team as the company grows.
You will not simply be implementing somebody else’s decisions. You will help decide what gets built, how it gets built and what the product eventually becomes.
Your first mission
Your first major goal will be to take the product from its current foundation to a polished, usable launch across iOS and Android.
Within your first few months, we expect you to:
- Establish a clean and scalable technical architecture.
- Launch the first working version of the application.
- Build a reliable AI voice-conversation experience.
- Create fast feedback loops with early users.
- Track latency, AI quality, retention and infrastructure costs.
- Ship improvements every week.
- Prepare the technical foundation for the next 10,000 users.
- Begin shaping the future internal engineering team.
The kind of person we are looking for
We are not hiring based only on years of experience.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has built and shipped real products.
- Is exceptionally good at coding.
- Understands both mobile and backend development.
- Has hands-on experience building with LLMs and AI APIs.
- Can independently convert an idea into a working product.
- Enjoys solving problems without waiting for detailed instructions.
- Can move incredibly fast without writing careless code.
- Uses modern AI coding tools intelligently.
- Is curious about product, design, users and business—not only technology.
- Wants ownership much earlier than a traditional company would provide.
- Is comfortable operating without a large team or corporate structure.
- Wants to build something meaningful from the ground up.
You may have one year of experience, three years of experience or be an exceptional new graduate. What matters is the quality of what you have built and the speed at which you can learn.
We are especially interested in early-career builders from IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIIT Hyderabad, BITS Pilani and similar institutions—or anyone whose work is strong enough to make their college name irrelevant.
Technical skills
You should be strong in several of the following:
- React Native and Expo.
- TypeScript and JavaScript.
- Python and FastAPI.
- REST APIs and WebSockets.
- PostgreSQL, Supabase or comparable databases.
- Mobile authentication and application security.
- OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini or similar AI APIs.
- Speech-to-text and text-to-speech technologies.
- Audio processing and streaming.
- Cloud deployment and CI/CD.
- App Store and Play Store deployment.
- Analytics, logging and production monitoring.
You do not need to know every technology on day one. But you must have the ability and hunger to learn anything the product requires.
Why this role is different
This is not a conventional corporate engineering job.
There will be:
- No unnecessary meetings.
- No corporate politics.
- No waiting months for approvals.
- No narrowly defined job description.
- No hiding inside a large engineering team.
- No spending an entire year working on one insignificant feature.
You will sit at the centre of the product and company.
You will work directly with the founders, participate in major product decisions and see the immediate impact of everything you build.
The role will be intense. Things will move quickly. You will occasionally work on problems you have never encountered before. You will carry serious responsibility from the beginning.
But you will also have enormous freedom, ownership and fun.
Our ambition is that one year in this role should expose you to the kind of product building, AI engineering, decision-making and company creation that could otherwise take several years inside a traditional organisation.
You will not merely join a startup. You will help build it.
Who should not apply
This role is probably not for you if:
- You need a large team before you can execute.
- You only want to work on one narrowly defined technology.
- You prefer receiving detailed instructions for every task.
- You are looking for a predictable corporate role.
- You enjoy discussing technology more than shipping products.
- You are uncomfortable taking responsibility when something breaks.
- You want to manage engineers but do not want to code.
