FIELD ENGINEER – ONLINE SEAWATER QUALITY & MET-OCEAN MONITORING SYSTEMS

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Field Engineer – Seawater Quality & Met-Ocean Monitoring Systems to join our technical team in the Gurgaon, India.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and field servicing of online seawater quality and meteorological/oceanographic (Met-Ocean) monitoring stations. The position requires strong practical experience with marine instrumentation, telemetry/data acquisition systems and field operations in demanding coastal and offshore environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, operate and maintain online seawater quality monitoring stations, including fixed stations, buoys, jetties, intake/outfall monitoring systems and other marine monitoring installations.
- Operate and maintain multiparameter water-quality sondes measuring parameters such as:
- Temperature
- pH
- Conductivity / Salinity
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
- Turbidity
- Chlorophyll-a
- Blue-Green Algae (BGA)
- Other optical and water-quality parameters
- Work with professional marine instrumentation from manufacturers such as YSI/Xylem, In-Situ, Hydrolab, Eureka/Solinst, Sea-Bird Scientific, Aanderaa, Campbell Scientific or equivalent systems.
- Operate and maintain Met-Ocean sensors, including:
- Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP)
- Wave and tide/water-level sensors
- Current meters
- Weather stations
- Wind speed and direction sensors
- Air temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure and rainfall sensors
- Perform routine sensor calibration, validation, cleaning, antifouling treatment and preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer procedures and project QA/QC requirements.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, communication and telemetry faults.
- Maintain data loggers, RTUs, telemetry systems, modems, solar power systems, batteries and associated field equipment.
- Support GSM/4G/5G, radio, satellite, Ethernet and other communication systems used for transmission of real-time monitoring data.
- Conduct scheduled and emergency site visits and participate in boat-based and offshore field activities when required.
- Review real-time data to identify sensor drift, fouling, communication failures, abnormal readings and equipment malfunctions.
- Maintain calibration records, field logs, maintenance reports, equipment inventories and service documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, environmental specialists, clients, subcontractors and equipment manufacturers.
- Ensure all field activities comply with company HSE requirements, marine safety procedures and client regulations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Marine Science, Oceanography or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5–10 years of relevant field experience in operation and maintenance of environmental, marine, oceanographic or Met-Ocean monitoring systems.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with multiparameter water-quality sondes and online monitoring systems.
- Practical knowledge of calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of marine and environmental sensors.
- Experience with ADCPs, tide/wave sensors, automatic weather stations and oceanographic instrumentation is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of data acquisition, telemetry, communications, electrical wiring, solar power and battery systems.
- Ability to diagnose equipment failures independently and perform field repairs where practical.
- Familiarity with marine biofouling issues and maintenance requirements for long-term deployments in warm, high-salinity seawater environments is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors, onboard boats and at coastal/offshore locations under challenging environmental conditions.
- Good written and spoken English with the ability to prepare clear technical and maintenance reports.
- Offshore/marine safety certification and relevant HSE training will be an advantage.
Candidate Profile
We are particularly interested in a practical, field-oriented engineer who is comfortable working directly with instruments rather than only supervising contractors. The candidate should be capable of independently diagnosing problems, calibrating sensors, replacing components, troubleshooting telemetry and restoring monitoring stations to operation.
Previous experience maintaining continuous real-time marine environmental monitoring networks in the India region will be a significant advantage.
