🌎 Director, Strategy & Engagement
About YPO
YPO is a global leadership community of over 35,000 chief executives from more than 140 countries. YPO brings together extraordinary leaders who are committed to becoming better leaders and better people. The organization provides a platform for the leaders to connect, learn, and grow through shared experiences, rich learning programs, and meaningful relationships. Members benefit from a supportive community that fosters personal, business, family and community growth.
Candidates must be flexible to accommodate time zones of international stakeholders when necessary. This is an international consultant contract as we are not an employer in India. The initial contract is for 12 months with the possibility of repeated renewal.
As a Director, Strategy & Engagement at YPO (internal title: Network Director), you’ll lead the strategy, operations, engagement, and member experience for one of YPO’s global member communities. You’ll partner with senior executives, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and volunteer leadership around the world to shape strategy, strengthen engagement, create meaningful learning and connection opportunities, and turn ambitious ideas into action.
You’ll be part strategic advisor, part relationship builder, and part business operator. One day you may be partnering with senior leaders on priorities for the year; the next, developing a new member experience, reviewing engagement data, managing a budget, or bringing together people across different countries and perspectives. If you enjoy working with accomplished leaders, navigating complex challenges, building global relationships, and taking ideas from strategy through execution, this could be a great next step.
🎯 WHAT YOU’LL DO
You’ll take ownership of the strategy, operations, engagement, and overall health of an assigned global YPO member community, partnering closely with its senior volunteer leadership to turn strategy into action.
In this role, you’ll:
- Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the Network Chair, Board, and Executive Committee, helping translate vision and priorities into action.
- Help shape global strategy and annual priorities, ensuring alignment with broader YPO goals and leading execution once direction is set.
- Create opportunities for members around the world to connect, learn, exchange ideas, and build meaningful relationships.
- Develop learning initiatives, programs, content, conversations, and engagement opportunities that keep the community relevant and valuable.
- Manage financial, relevance, and engagement health, including budget forecasting, performance tracking, and using data to inform decisions.
- Partner across YPO to develop and deliver virtual and in-person experiences, from concept through execution and evaluation.
- Build a strong virtual community experience through relevant content, meaningful conversations, and opportunities for members to engage with one another.
- Navigate a global stakeholder environment, working across Networks, Regions, Councils, Committees, and internal teams to build alignment and move priorities forward.
- Support leadership continuity through succession planning, onboarding, and support for incoming volunteer leaders.
- Stay close to the member experience, responding to evolving needs and helping deliver a consistently high level of service across regions.
🧩 WHAT YOU’LL BRING
There isn’t one perfect career path into this role. You may come from strategy, consulting, relationship or account management, operations, membership or community leadership, hospitality, or another environment where you’ve had to bring people and priorities together.
You’ll likely bring:
- Significant professional experience in strategy, consulting, relationship or account management, operations, membership/community leadership, or a related field
- Experience partnering directly with C-suite executives, senior leaders, Boards, or other high-level stakeholders
- A track record of building trusted relationships and influencing without direct authority
- Experience taking strategies, programs, or initiatives from idea through execution
- Strong business and financial acumen, including experience with budgets, forecasting, analysis, or financial decision-making
- Excellent communication, presentation, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
- Strong judgment and comfort navigating ambiguity, competing priorities, and challenging conversations
- The ability to work effectively across cultures, perspectives, geographies, and time zones
- A collaborative approach paired with the independence and ownership to keep work moving
A few things that would be especially valuable:
- Experience in a membership association, member-led organization, or community-based environment
- Experience working with volunteer leaders or governance structures
- Exposure to global events, learning programs, or community engagement
- Experience in entrepreneurship, nonprofits, events, hospitality, or senior operations
- Contract management experience
- A master’s degree and/or relevant professional certifications or training
