Job details:
About Barak & Brazos EngineeringThe name comes from two rivers: Barak in India, Brazos in the USA. Founded in 2018, Barak & Brazos Engineering is a specialist engineering partner for Data Centre Infrastructure, including but not limited to power generation, power distribution equipment, and industrial automation, operating from Bengaluru and Houston, TX. We did not pivot into data centre engineering — we grew up inside it, and it now accounts for 70-80% of our work for hyperscale developers, EPCs, OEMs, and utility package suppliers, primarily across our established US market. In the last seven years we have grown revenue 100x, and we're now building the systems and leadership to do it again.
Our engineering work spans three groups: (1) Plant Engineering — power plant engineering, water treatment, and substation design; (2) Power Distribution Equipment — design of LV/MV switchgear, PDU, UPS, distribution boards, and BESS/E-Houses; and (3) Product Design & Special Purpose Machines — industrial automation, factory automation, and embedded product design. Our culture runs on one idea: a handshake is more concrete than a signed contract. That ethos shows up in our 90% annual retention and client relationships that average 4+ years.
100x Revenue growth, last 7 years
200+ Engineers today
50+ Global clients served
90% Annual retention
2 Global offices (India, USA)
The OpportunityBarak & Brazos is entering its next phase of scale, and we need an operations leader who has built high-growth systems before — not just operated inside them. This role owns delivery and P&L today, with significant runway to grow into broader executive leadership for the right person: build your own successor within a year, and partner with the India Head / Co-Founder to take the company from $5M to $50M in revenue over the next 3-4 years through organic growth and inorganic moves — M&A, investment, and divestment.
Day 1
DAY 1: Own end-to-end delivery operations and gross P&L across the project portfolio; begin building the systems (QMS, L&D, KPI matrix) the firm needs at its next scale.
~12 Months
12 MONTHS: Have built a successor for the Director of Operations seat and a mid-level delivery leadership bench underneath you.
3-4 Years
3-4 YEARS: Help take the company from $5M to $50M in revenue, driving growth through both organic expansion (capacity, new geographies, client accounts) and inorganic moves (M&A, investment, divestment) alongside the India Head / Co-Founder.
Key Responsibilities
Growth Strategy & Leadership Runway
• Partner directly with the India Head / Co-Founder to shape the operating strategy behind a $5M-to-$50M growth plan over the next 3-4 years.
• Build the organizational and operational readiness for inorganic growth — support M&A due diligence, integration planning, investment evaluation, and divestment decisions as they arise.
• Identify and build the case for organic growth levers: expansion into new geographies (APAC, Europe) beyond our established US base, new accounts, and expansion into new and adjacent service lines.
Delivery & P&L Ownership
• Own end-to-end delivery operations across all active engineering projects — planning, scheduling, resourcing, and execution tracking.
• Hold gross P&L accountability for the project portfolio: own cost tracking, margin protection, and corrective action when projects drift off plan.
• Serve as the operational point of escalation for client delivery issues, resolving them quickly to protect client relationships and revenue.
• Collaborate with the sales team on customer connects, account penetration, key account management, and quality pre-sales support to drive growth.
• Partner with technology teams to enhance the organization's technical relevance through new technology areas and digitalization, with continuous improvements that show up measurably in the bottom line.
Building Operating Systems (Not Just Running Them)
• Design and stand up the Quality Management System (QMS) the firm needs to hold its quality bar at 5x the current scale.
• Establish the governance framework — decision rights, delegation of authority, and reporting cadence to the India Head / Co-Founder — needed to run the business at scale.
• Build the enterprise and project risk management framework, including a live risk register and clear escalation protocols.
• Stand up Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) systems and work toward relevant safety accreditation (e.g., ISO 45001) to meet global client requirements.
• Build the Learning & Development (L&D) system that turns engineering hires into delivery-ready talent faster, and build the KPI matrix used to run the business.
• Evaluate and implement ERP and project management tooling to give leadership real-time visibility into project health, cost, and utilization.
• Apply structured methodologies (Like Lean) to reduce rework, delays, and cost overruns across the delivery organization.
• Where useful, extend this system-building to financial controls/budgeting processes and a knowledge management or design-standards library (optional, a plus).
Scaling the Organization (200 → 1,000+)
• Design the organizational structure, hiring plan, and management systems that let headcount grow roughly 4-5x over the next 3-4 years without breaking quality or culture.
• Build a mid-level delivery leadership bench — the layer of managers who will run the business day-to-day once you move up.
• Build and execute a formal succession plan for your own seat within 12 months of joining.
Culture & People Leadership
• Lead with the same handshake-first, culture-driven ethos that has produced 90% annual retention — this is a charismatic, visible leadership role, not a back-office one.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain talent across our established US base and expanding APAC/Europe footprint.
Compliance & Cross-Functional Coordination
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements (NFPA, IEEE, NEC, ASME, IBC, and equivalent international codes) across all projects.
• Coordinate with business development, finance, and HR to align operational capacity with the sales pipeline, hiring plans, and growth strategy.
What You Bring
Background
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) required; MBA or advanced degree in Engineering Management is a strong plus.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in operations, project delivery, or general management, with meaningful time inside global EPCs, engineering/design firms, and/or power distribution OEMs.
• Experience working across global locations and time zones; candidates with US-based experience are strongly preferred, and APAC or European experience is an added advantage.
Systems & Scale
• Demonstrated, hands-on experience building — not just running — QMS, governance, risk management, and HSE frameworks, plus L&D and KPI/performance management systems.
• Experience building financial controls/budgeting systems or knowledge management / design-standards systems is a plus.
• A track record of scaling an organization's headcount and operating model by several multiples within a 3-4 year window.
• Proven gross P&L ownership across a multi-project portfolio, with direct accountability for cost and margin outcomes.
• Exposure to M&A, investment, or divestment activity — as a driver, evaluator, or integration lead — is a strong plus.
Certifications & Tools
• PMP, Lean certifications etc are a strong plus.
• Hands-on experience implementing or scaling ERP and project management tooling (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Project, Zoho, Primavera, or equivalent).
Leadership Style
• Highly culture-driven with charismatic, visible leadership — someone people choose to follow, not just report to.
• Proven ability to identify, develop, and promote mid-level leaders into delivery leadership roles.
• Strong business acumen and uncompromising business ethics, with a genuine strategic and process-building mindset.
• Comfortable operating at both the boardroom and the project-execution level.
Career TrajectoryThis role is built as a launchpad, not a landing spot. Success looks like building your own replacement, and growing into a broader executive leadership mandate — co-owning the growth plan that takes Barak & Brazos from $5M to $50M in revenue over the next 3-4 years, through organic expansion and inorganic moves including M&A, investment, and divestment.
What We Offer• A rare leadership seat with direct, ongoing partnership with the India Head / Co-Founder, and significant runway to grow with the company.
• A defined runway from Director of Operations into broader executive leadership, with a genuine growth and M&A mandate for the right person.
• Ownership of a large-scale delivery function (180+ team today) with the latitude to design and build systems rather than just maintain them.
• Global exposure across our established US base and an expanding APAC/Europe footprint.
• A values-driven culture built on “words are our bonds” — evidenced by 90% annual retention and 4+ year average client tenure.
