As the Foundation enters its next phase of growth, it is looking for a visionary, strategic financial leader to join its Senior Leadership Team.
Role Overview
The Director - Finance serves as the Strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Foundation. This role holds total fiduciary responsibility for ensuring that the Foundation is a well-managed, institutionalized, fully compliant, and financially viable organization.
As a core member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the incumbent will manage the intersection of long-term financial strategy, rigorous risk mitigation, capital preservation, working capital management and board-level governance. The right candidate will keep the Foundation abreast of modern budgeting and predictive control tools, manage a sophisticated treasury function, and champion innovative financing structures within the Indian non-profit ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Financial Leadership & Treasury Management
● Long-Term Fiduciary Strategy: Partner directly with the Founder-Director and Board to design and execute long-term capital allocation strategies, multi-year financial models, and scalability forecasts.
● Treasury & Capital Preservation: Oversee the organization's treasury functions, managing liquid assets, optimization of cash flows, and capital preservation. Ensure all investment of surplus funds strictly adheres to Section 11(5) of the Income Tax Act.
● Modernizing Financial Infrastructure: Implement and maintain state-of-the-art budgeting, financial planning, and control tools to streamline decision-making across all program verticals.
2. Board Governance & Secretarial Oversight
● Board Liaison: Serve as the primary financial interface to the Board of Directors and the Audit/Finance Committees. Present quarterly financial health, variance analyses, and strategic risk overviews.
● Secretarial & Statutory Governance: Oversee legal and secretarial compliance relevant to the Foundation's legal structure (e.g., Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company rules). Actively manage organizational registrations, annual filings, and legal documentation.
3. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) & Compliance
● Risk Mitigation: Design, implement, and maintain an Enterprise Risk Management framework spanning operational, financial, and reputational risks.
● Bulletproof Compliance: Guarantee absolute compliance with the shifting Indian non-profit regulatory landscape: FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act), Income Tax regulations (12A/80G), CSR laws under the Companies Act, and labor laws (PF/ESIC).
● Audit Management: Overhaul and monitor internal control frameworks. Lead the engagement for external statutory audits, internal risk audits, and rigorous donor-specific financial reviews.
4. Sector Innovation & Thought Leadership
● Blended Finance Models: Research and implement innovative financing methods (e.g., Social Impact Bonds, outcome-based funding pools, pooled CSR structures) tailored for the Indian non-profit sector, as relevant to the Foundation, ensuring financial viability and sustainability.
● Donor & Stakeholder Relations: Act as the financial face of the Foundation to institutional backers, HNIs, and corporate CSR boards, reinforcing trust through institutional-grade reporting transparency.
5. Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Operations
● Capacity Building: Lead, mentor, and institutionalize a high-performing finance, accounts, and compliance team.
● Operational Synergy: Work closely with Program Heads to cultivate financial discipline across the organization, assisting them with budget management, resource optimization, and cost-efficiency.
Qualifications & Experience
● Education: Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, MBA in Finance, or an equivalent advanced degree in financial management.
● Experience: 12 to 15+ years of post-qualification experience in financial management, with a minimum of 5 years in a core senior leadership role (CFO, Head of Finance, or equivalent) managing board interactions.
● Sector Expertise: Deep understanding of Indian non-profit accounting standards, Section 11(5) treasury mandates, FCRA regulations, and corporate CSR governance laws is highly preferred.
● Systems Acuity: Demonstrated success leading organization-wide implementations of ERP systems, advanced MIS tools, and automated budgeting infrastructure.
