About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you'll build and maintain the data pipelines and models that power our business intelligence and analytics stack. This is a hands-on build role: you'll own pipeline development end to end, work directly in a modern lakehouse or cloud warehouse environment, and stay close enough to the reporting layer to understand how your data gets used. With 3–5 years of experience, you'll have moved past learning the tools and into shipping reliable data products.
What You'll Do
ETL/ELT Development
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or equivalent orchestration frameworks
- Ingest data reliably from varied source systems into a centralised data warehouse or lake
- Own pipeline reliability — monitoring, failure handling, and re-runs
Data Modelling & Warehousing
- Build and extend dimensional and relational models (star, snowflake) for analytics and reporting workloads
- Work in Snowflake, Databricks, or a comparable cloud warehouse/lakehouse platform
- Contribute to schema design decisions, not just implement them
Database Engineering
- Write performant SQL for transformation, cleansing and aggregation, including complex joins and window functions
- Tune queries and jobs for cost and runtime
BI Enablement
- Build and support reports and dashboards in Power BI or Tableau
- Work directly with analysts and business users to translate reporting requirements into data models that serve them
- Structure data to enable self-service BI rather than one-off report requests
Data Quality
- Implement validation and data quality checks across pipelines
- Investigate and resolve data discrepancies raised by business users
What You'll Need — Must Have
- 3–5 years in data engineering with hands-on ETL/ELT development
- Databricks or Snowflake at project level — actual delivery experience, not training or certification alone
- Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP) demonstrated through delivered projects
- Strong SQL — SQL Server, Postgres, Snowflake, or Redshift
- Working experience with dimensional modelling — you've built or extended star/snowflake schemas, not only queried them
- Power BI or Tableau — you've built reports or dashboards yourself
- Python for scripting and data manipulation
- Familiarity with JSON, Parquet, CSV
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related
Good to Have
- Azure Data Factory specifically
- Both Databricks and Snowflake
- Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, or medallion architecture exposure
- CI/CD for data pipelines, Git-based workflows
- dbt or similar transformation frameworks
- Exposure to data governance or cataloguing tools
