Job details:
Controls & Electronics Engineer, Industrial Automation and Defect Detection
NITS Engineering, Computer Vision and Industrial Automation Division
Location: New Delhi, India
Type: Full time
About the Division
NITS Engineering's Computer Vision and Industrial Automation Division builds the machine vision, controls, and automation systems that power precision manufacturing across the company's product lines, from biofabrication system to a growing range of automated defect detection systems. The division works at the intersection of industrial electronics, PLC based control, and machine vision, developing systems that catch defects, drive quality decisions, and keep manufacturing lines running reliably. As the division scales, it is expanding its automation, controls, and computer vision capability to support new product lines and manufacturing processes across NITS Engineering.
About the Role
We are looking for a Controls & Electronics Engineer to join the division and lead the PLC development of industrial automation and defect detection systems, starting with our existing bottle cap defect detection and extending to other advanced engineering platforms as the division's scope grows. The role also supports broader automation systems work as needed.
The role spans PLC based machine control, motion systems, sensors, actuators, machine vision, industrial electronics, temperature control, and fluidic systems, with a particular focus on building automated defect detection capability into our platforms. You will work across the complete system, from selecting and integrating components and developing control and vision based inspection logic, to wiring, commissioning, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of the machine.
What You Will Do
Defect Detection and Machine Vision (Computer Vision Division)
- Develop and integrate machine vision based defect detection systems, including cameras, lighting, triggering, image acquisition, and inspection logic.
- Define detection criteria and inspection routines for bioprinting and biofabrication processes, working closely with process and biomedical engineering teams.
- Integrate machine vision output with PLC control logic to enable automated pass or fail decisions, alarms, and corrective actions.
- Continuously refine detection accuracy and reliability as new failure modes are identified.
Industrial Automation and Controls
- Develop PLC based control systems using platforms such as Siemens S7-1200 and TIA Portal.
- Design and implement machine control logic, sequencing, interlocks, alarms, and HMI interfaces.
- Integrate stepper and servo motors, motor drivers, encoders, limit switches, sensors, heaters, valves, pumps, and other actuators.
- Develop electrical architectures for 3D bioprinters, including power distribution, control panels, SMPS, relays, protection, wiring, connectors, and machine I/O.
- Integrate temperature control systems including heaters, RTDs, thermocouples, and temperature controllers.
- Integrate pressure, flow, position, optical, and other sensors used in dispensing and fluidic systems.
- Implement industrial communication and networking between PLCs, drives, sensors, cameras, embedded controllers, and industrial PCs.
Electrical Build and Support
- Build, wire, test, and troubleshoot electrical and electronic assemblies and control panels.
- Diagnose electrical noise, grounding, signal integrity, communication, timing, and control system issues.
- Prepare electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, BOMs, and technical documentation.
- Commission machines and work with mechanical, software, and fluidics engineers during system integration and testing.
Biofabrication Systems Support
- Contribute automation and controls expertise to broader biofabrication platform development as projects require.
- Collaborate with the biofabrication and biomedical engineering teams on process automation, sensing, and system reliability.
What We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant hands-on experience in industrial automation, machine controls, electronics integration, robotics, or hardware development.
- Practical experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems.
- Exposure to machine vision or computer vision based inspection systems, or strong interest in developing this capability.
- Ability to design and troubleshoot electrical circuits, control panels, and machine wiring.
- Strong understanding of sensors, relays, solenoids, motor drivers, actuators, power supplies, and industrial I/O.
- Experience with stepper or servo motion systems and machine level motion control.
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Hands on experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other electrical test equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose problems across electrical, electronic, mechanical, and software interfaces.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Siemens S7-1200, TIA Portal, HMI, and PROFINET.
- Experience with industrial machine vision, cameras, lighting, triggering, and image acquisition, or basic computer vision or image processing tools.
- Experience with pneumatic systems, solenoid valves, pumps, pressure control, or fluidic systems.
- Experience with temperature control systems and PID control.
- Familiarity with Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, CAN, RS-485, or other industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with Raspberry Pi, STM32, ESP32, or other embedded platforms.
- Basic PCB design or electronics prototyping experience.
- Experience integrating electronics, controls, or vision systems into 3D printers, robotics, laboratory equipment, or other precision machines.
- Basic Python or C/C++ for hardware interfacing, testing, or vision pipeline development.
Why Join
- Help build and shape the Computer Vision and Industrial Automation Division from an early stage, with direct ownership of our defect detection systems.
- Work directly on the electrical, control, and vision architecture of advanced 3D bioprinters and biomedical systems.
- Own control, electronics, and inspection subsystems from component selection through integration, commissioning, and testing.
- Gain exposure to biofabrication systems and processes alongside core automation work.
- Access to in house prototyping, fabrication, electronics, and testing facilities.
- Work closely with mechanical, fluidics, software, and biomedical engineering teams.
- A fast moving engineering environment with substantial technical responsibility and room to grow.
