Role Description The Containerization & Platform Modernization Leader is a full-time, on-site role based in Pune City. This role is responsible for designing and leading containerization strategies, including the adoption of technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, to modernize existing platforms and applications. Day-to-day tasks include collaborating with software development teams to refactor legacy systems, defining solution architectures for microservices and cloud-native deployments, and establishing best practices for CI/CD, security, and observability. The leader will coordinate modernization projects, manage timelines and stakeholders, and ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure. This role also involves mentoring technical teams, documenting standards and patterns, and partnering with product and business stakeholders to align modernization initiatives with strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and lead enterprise-wide containerization strategy, with a focus on WebSphere → Open Liberty migration
- Drive time-bound, outcome-focused migration waves across application portfolios
- Partner with infrastructure and platform teams on container orchestration (Kubernetes/EKS), observability, resilience, and security
- Build reusable enterprise assets — container blueprints, CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks
- Assess application portfolios for container fitment, remediation needs, and migration sequencing
- Uplift engineering teams through playbooks, coaching, and automation accelerators
- Establish governance guardrails aligned with architecture, security, and SRE practices
- Track and report measurable outcomes: migration velocity, deployment frequency, operational stability
What We're Looking For:
- 13+ years in application modernization, cloud, or platform engineering
- Strong expertise in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, EKS) and Java middleware modernization
- Strong AWS cloud expertise with cost-optimized solution experience
- Strong programming background — this role involves extensive hands-on coding
- Proven track record leading large-scale modernization/migration programs
- Deep understanding of SRE practices, observability, and enterprise security/compliance
