Mission
Manage direct-material BOM procurement for the assigned portfolio, building a structured procurement process that delivers confirmed material dates, manages shortages, develops qualified alternate sources, and maintains transparent and competitive pricing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Handle end-to-end direct-material purchasing of electronic components and, where required, mechanical parts, sheet metal, machined parts, plastics/molded parts, packing materials, and other BOM commodities.
2. Manage RFQs, supplier quotations, commercial negotiation, PO placement, PO confirmation, and follow-up for timely delivery and quality.
3. Develop and manage franchised-distributor and manufacturer-direct relationships. Experience with distributors such as Arrow, Avnet, WPG, Rabyte, element14/Farnell, Mouser, or Digi-Key is an advantage.
4. Coordinate import purchasing activities, including Incoterms, lead times, logistics coordination, and landed-cost awareness.
5. Monitor supplier delivery readiness, ETD tracking and dashboards, and manage pull-in/push-out of supplier deliveries in line with customer forecasts and production requirements.
6. Drive shortage recovery through demand revalidation, franchised-source escalation, alternate-part qualification with Engineering, and controlled broker sourcing only when required with proper traceability.
7. Coordinate with Production, Planning, Quality, Stores, Engineering, Finance, and other stakeholders for material requirements and procurement priorities.
8. Monitor supplier performance and support vendor development, alternate source development, cost reduction, and annual savings targets.
9. Manage MOQ, material attrition, excess and obsolete (E&O) exposure, and purchase price variance (PPV) with supporting evidence.
10. Ensure overall project material spend remains within the approved budget/customer-approved CBOM price.
11. Maintain purchase records, supplier details, quotations, POs, procurement documentation, and SAP transactions accurately.
12. Ensure procurement complies with company policies, technical specifications, quality requirements, delivery commitments, traceability standards, and procurement SLA/KPI expectations.
Must-Have Experience & Skills
· 3-6 years of relevant direct-material procurement experience, preferably in EMS, electronics manufacturing, or an electronics OEM.
· Hands-on experience purchasing electronic components. Direct-material/component buying experience is essential; indirect procurement or service purchasing alone is not sufficient.
· Strong knowledge of purchase and procurement processes, supplier development, negotiation, vendor management, and PO management.
· Hands-on exposure to franchised electronic-component distributors in India and import purchase orders.
· Experience handling component lead times, allocation/shortage situations, supplier escalation, and alternate-source development.
· Good understanding of cost, quality, delivery, MOQ, lead time, PPV, and material availability.
· Good communication, coordination, analytical, and negotiation skills.
· Knowledge of SAP and MS Excel is preferred.
Preferred Exposure
· Experience with mechanical/box-build BOM commodities such as enclosures, sheet metal, machined parts, plastics, or molding.
· Defense-grade sourcing discipline, including traceability to franchised sources, Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), and counterfeit-avoidance controls.
· MOOWR / EOU / SEZ exposure.
· Cost-reduction program experience and CTB (Clear-to-Build) familiarity.
· Experience working through major electronic-component allocation or shortage cycles.
