Job details:
We are hiring: Business Development Officer | 1–3 Years Experience
Psych Residency, India’s clinical practice accelerator for early mental health professionals, is looking for a Business Development Officer to join our core team.
This is not a traditional sales role.
We are looking for someone who understands that business development is not just about generating leads or closing registrations. It is about understanding the customer, building trust, creating the right conversations, and turning those conversations into long-term relationships.
If you have 1–3 years of experience in sales, business development, partnerships, client success, or a similar client-facing role and want to take meaningful ownership of a growing business, this could be a strong fit.
About Psych Residency
Psych Residency works with early-career mental health professionals through small, supervised cohorts designed to help them move from textbook knowledge to confident clinical practice.
Our facilitators bring 20+ years of combined clinical experience, and we are building a category around structured clinical practice development for mental health professionals in India.
We are an early-stage, fast-growing team, which means the person joining us will have significant ownership and visibility into how the business is built.
What you will own
- Build and manage the business development pipeline from prospecting to conversion
- Identify and engage prospective participants, institutions, clinics, colleges, and strategic partners
- Own follow-ups across calls, WhatsApp, email, and other relevant channels
- Understand prospective participants’ needs, concerns, and objections and communicate the value of our programs effectively
- Manage the sales process end to end, including registrations, payment follow-ups, and conversion
- Develop relationships with colleges, clinics, mental health institutions, communities, and potential referral partners
- Work directly with the founders on sales strategy, pricing conversations, objection handling, partnerships, and growth initiatives
- Track pipeline performance, conversion rates, follow-ups, and weekly/monthly targets
- Identify what is working, what is not, and continuously improve the sales process
- Represent Psych Residency professionally across every interaction — this is a relationship-building and brand-building role, not just a sales role
- Conduct basic market research around competitors, programmes, pricing, customer behaviour, and positioning
- Contribute ideas to improve how we acquire, convert, and retain our community
What we are looking for
- 1–3 years of experience in business development, sales, partnerships, client success, account management, or a similar client-facing role
- Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Business, Communications, BBA, or a related field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to confidently handle conversations with prospective customers and partners
- Comfortable with outbound outreach, follow-ups, negotiations, and closing
- Strong ownership mindset — you should be comfortable taking a problem and figuring out how to solve it
- Ability to work with targets, numbers, and measurable outcomes
- Organised enough to manage multiple conversations, leads, and follow-ups simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build genuine professional relationships
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, early-stage environment
- Based in or willing to work in alignment with Delhi NCR working hours
Good to have
- Experience in an early-stage startup or lean team
- Experience with CRM platforms such as HubSpot or similar tools
- Experience in education, healthcare, mental health, professional training, or a related industry
- Experience building partnerships or institutional relationships
- Familiarity with LinkedIn, WhatsApp Business, email outreach, and other business development channels
- Comfort with using data to understand and improve sales performance
What you get
- You will work closely with the founding team and understand how strategy, sales, partnerships, positioning, and operations come together.
- You won't be handed a script and asked to make calls all day. You will own conversations, experiment with approaches, build relationships, and contribute to the growth engine.
- You will get exposure to the real mechanics of building an early-stage company — from acquiring the first conversation to converting customers and building partnerships.
- As Psych Residency grows, your role and responsibility will grow with it. We are looking for someone who wants to build something, not simply occupy a position.
- You will be joining at an early stage and have the opportunity to directly influence how Psych Residency builds its growth function.
