Role Overview
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving new business acquisition, strategic partnerships, and account management for defence, aerospace, and UAV/UAS programs. The role requires strong knowledge of the Indian defence procurement ecosystem, government tendering processes, and the ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder business cycles.
Key Responsibilities
· Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities with the Armed Forces, Ministry of Defence (MoD), DRDO, DPSUs, and other Central/State Government and defence agencies.
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across defence procurement, program offices, end-user establishments, and institutional customers.
· Track and respond to tenders, RFPs, and RFIs in accordance with the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) and Defence Procurement Manual (DPM) guidelines.
· Lead and coordinate the end-to-end tendering process, including opportunity identification, bid/no-bid evaluation, compliance, documentation, submission, and follow-up.
· Manage responses to Central and State Government tenders and opportunities through relevant government e-procurement platforms, including GeM, wherever applicable.
· Prepare and present technical-commercial proposals, bid documents, presentations, and other business development materials in coordination with Engineering, Operations, SCM, and Finance teams.
· Achieve business development, order acquisition, and revenue targets in line with organizational objectives.
· Monitor defence policies, budgets, procurement trends, and emerging requirements to identify new business opportunities, particularly in the UAV/UAS domain.
· Support contract negotiations, including commercial terms, delivery schedules, and other applicable defence procurement requirements.
· Represent the organization at defence expos, seminars, conferences, trials, demonstrations, and industry forums to generate leads and strengthen business relationships.
· Maintain a structured business development pipeline and provide regular reports on opportunities, progress, forecasts, and win/loss analysis.
· Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, SCM, and other internal teams to ensure proposed solutions, pricing, and delivery timelines are commercially and operationally executable.
· Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships, collaborations, and participation in defence/UAV programs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline; MBA/PGDM in Sales, Marketing, Business Management, or a related field is preferred.
· 10–15 years of relevant experience in business development, defence sales, government liaison, procurement, or program/business development roles within the defence, aerospace, UAV/UAS, or related sectors.
· Strong working knowledge of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) and Defence Procurement Manual (DPM).
· Strong understanding of the Indian defence procurement ecosystem, including MoD, Armed Forces, DRDO, DPSUs, and government agencies.
· Established network and relationships within the defence and government ecosystem.
· Experience in government tendering, RFP/RFI responses, bid management, and e-procurement processes; GeM experience is preferred.
· Prior exposure to UAV/UAS programs and defence procurement is preferred.
· Strong communication, negotiation, proposal writing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
· Ability to manage long sales cycles, multiple stakeholders, and high-value business opportunities.
· Willingness to travel extensively for customer meetings, tenders, trials, demonstrations, and industry events.
Preferred Candidate:
· Ex-service officer from the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force is strongly preferred.
· Prior experience in defence business development, government sales, procurement, or liaison roles.
· Strong understanding of defence requirements, operational applications, and procurement processes.
· Existing relationships with key stakeholders across the defence and government ecosystem.
· Experience in defence/UAV tenders, trials, demonstrations, and large-scale government contracts.
