Job Description
The AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) / Smart Meter Business Analyst is responsible for gathering, analysing, and translating business requirements related to smart metering systems including AMI, MDM, HES, Prepaid Billing, WFM, and SLA applications into functional specifications for product and development teams. The role bridges DISCOM stakeholders, AMISP vendors, technical teams, and operations to ensure smooth implementation, integration, and performance of smart meter solutions.
About the Role
The AMI / Smart Meter Business Analyst is responsible for gathering, analysing, and translating business requirements related to smart metering systems.
Responsibilities
- Requirements Gathering & Analysis
- Engage with DISCOMs, AMISP, and internal teams to capture business requirements for AMI, MDM, Billing, HES, and integration processes.
- Document functional & non-functional requirements, business process flows, and user stories.
- Analyse gaps in current vs. expected AMI workflows (installation to billing cycle).
- Integration & Data Flow Understanding
- Understand system integration between HES ↔ MDM ↔ Billing ↔ WFM ↔ SLA applications.
- Review API specifications, payload structures, data validation rules, and communication workflows.
- Coordinate with integration teams for new API development and enhancements.
- Testing & Quality Assurance
- Prepare UAT test scenarios, acceptance criteria, and validation checklists.
- Perform functional testing of AMI/MDM modules, reports, dashboards, and mobile app features.
- Validate AMI data synchronization, meter onboarding, exception handling, and SLA calculations.
- Project Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor project progress, requirement status, change requests, and system performance.
- Ensure timely delivery of AMI modules as per project plan.
- Support MIS reporting, analytical dashboards, and KPI tracking.
Qualifications
- B.Tech / B.E Electrical and Electronics or M. Tech with relevant experience.
Required Skills
- Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of AMI, Smart Metering, MDM, HES, Billing processes.
- Experience with APIs, JSON/XML payloads, SQL basics, and data validation.
- Familiarity with WFM mobile applications and SLA performance systems.
- Business & Analytical Skills
- Excellent documentation (BRD/FSD), business analysis, and process mapping skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into business-friendly language.
- Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis tools.
- Soft Skills
- Strong communication, stakeholder management & coordination.
- Problem solving, analytical mindset, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in cross-functional environments with AMISP & DISCOM teams.
Preferred Skills
- 2-4 years of experience in AMI/MDM/Smart Metering domain.
- Prior work with DISCOM/Utility/AMISP projects preferred.
