Junior/Sustainability Consultant (up to 2 years experience)
Role overview
We are seeking a motivated Sustainability Consultant to support the delivery of BREEAM assessments for commercial and mixed-use projects. The role will support project teams from early design through to post-construction certification, helping clients achieve practical, cost-effective and evidence-based sustainability outcomes.
The successful candidate will receive structured training in the BREEAM methodology and will work closely with UK-based sustainability consultants. Prior exposure to green-building standards such as LEED, IGBC, GRIHA, EDGE, WELL or equivalent sustainability frameworks is desirable, but BREEAM experience is not essential.
Key responsibilities
- Support the delivery of BREEAM assessments, including New Construction, Refurbishment and Fit-Out, and residential projects.
- Prepare BREEAM pre-assessments, scorecards, trackers, credit strategies and progress reports.
- Review drawings, specifications, calculations, reports and supporting documentation against BREEAM criteria.
- Coordinate the collection, review and management of evidence from architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers and clients.
- Identify compliance gaps, risks and opportunities to improve BREEAM scores at early project stages.
- Support wider sustainability services, including whole-life carbon, circular economy, sustainable materials, energy and ESG-related project work, depending on experience and business need.
Essential requirements
- Degree in architecture, environmental architecture, civil engineering, building services engineering, environmental science, sustainability, construction management or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in sustainable buildings, low-carbon construction and green-building certification.
- Excellent written English and ability to prepare clear, accurate technical documents.
- Strong attention to detail, document-control skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and technical reports.
Desirable requirements
- LEED Green Associate, LEED AP, IGBC, GRIHA, EDGE, WELL or other green-building certification experience.
- Experience in sustainable design, building materials, energy efficiency, life-cycle assessment or carbon assessment.
- Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, IES VE, DesignBuilder, One Click LCA or similar design, energy or carbon tools.
- Previous consultancy, design-practice, construction or project-coordination experience.
