Brand Manager
About the role
Mookuthi is looking for a Brand Manager who can help build, protect and evolve the world around the brand. This is not simply a marketing role.
At Mookuthi, the brand exists across many places: the pieces we create, the stories we tell, the photographs we make, our flagship store, The Mookuthi Show, our website, conversations with patrons, collaborations, packaging, social media and the way someone encounters Mookuthi for the very first time.
The Brand Manager will work closely with the Founder & Creative Director to translate the larger vision of Mookuthi into a clear, consistent and compelling brand experience across all these touchpoints.
The role requires someone who can move comfortably between thinking and doing: someone capable of understanding culture, consumers and brands, while also being extremely good at making things happen.
What you will do
Understand and steward the brand
Develop a deep understanding of Mookuthi: its origins, design philosophy, cultural context, visual language, voice and ambitions.
Act as a custodian of the brand and ensure that everything carrying the Mookuthi name feels coherent with the world we are building.
Translate vision into brand strategy
Work closely with the Founder & Creative Director to translate ideas and long-term ambitions into actionable brand plans.
Build annual and quarterly brand calendars covering collections, campaigns, The Mookuthi Show, retail, collaborations, cultural moments and other brand initiatives.
Build desire for Mookuthi
Think continuously about how Mookuthi can become more desirable, relevant and culturally significant.
Look beyond selling individual pieces and explore how we can build fascination around the larger idea of nose ornamentation and self-expression.
Understand our consumer
Develop a nuanced understanding of existing and potential Mookuthi patrons.
Study how people discover us, what draws them towards us, what prevents them from engaging with us and how perceptions of the brand change across cities, cultures and consumer groups.
Translate these insights into better communication, campaigns and experiences.
Develop campaigns and stories
Take collections, products, ideas and business objectives and develop them into compelling brand narratives and campaigns.
Create strong briefs for photography, film, design, copy, digital, social media and other creative outputs.
Ensure that Mookuthi’s communication creates curiosity and desire rather than becoming purely transactional.
Own the brand calendar
Manage the overall rhythm of communication across social media, website, email, retail, PR, The Mookuthi Show and other relevant channels.
Ensure different teams and partners are working towards one coherent narrative rather than operating as independent channels.
Build The Mookuthi Show as a brand property
Work with the team to develop the story and communication surrounding The Mookuthi Show in each city.
Understand the cultural and consumer context of each market and develop relevant local partnerships, communities, PR opportunities and storytelling.
Shape the physical experience of Mookuthi
Work with retail and design teams to continuously improve how the brand is experienced in the flagship store, The Mookuthi Show and future retail spaces.
Think about visual merchandising, communication, objects, packaging, service rituals and the smaller details that collectively create memory.
Build cultural relevance
Identify interesting people, artists, designers, writers, institutions, communities and cultural spaces with whom Mookuthi could engage.
Develop collaborations and initiatives that expand the world of Mookuthi without diluting its identity.
Manage external creative partners
Identify and work with photographers, filmmakers, stylists, writers, designers, agencies, PR partners and other collaborators.
Create clear briefs, manage timelines and budgets, and ensure the final work meets the creative and strategic expectations of the brand.
Work across the organisation
Collaborate closely with Product, Retail, CRM, Digital Marketing, E-commerce and Operations.
Ensure that brand thinking does not remain within the marketing team but travels through the entire consumer experience.
Measure and learn
Build simple systems to understand whether our brand initiatives are working.
Look at consumer response, engagement, organic discovery, branded search, PR, campaign performance, patron acquisition and business outcomes.
Use these insights to continuously sharpen what we do.
Who we are looking for
Someone with approximately 4–7 years of experience in brand management, marketing, communications or a related role.
Experience in fashion, design, jewellery, beauty, hospitality, art, culture or premium consumer brands would be valuable, but an exceptional understanding of brands matters more than category experience.
You should have:
• A strong instinct for brands and culture
• Excellent taste and visual sensitivity
• Strong writing and communication skills
• An understanding of contemporary consumer behaviour
• The ability to turn abstract ideas into executable plans
• Experience managing campaigns and creative projects
• Strong project management skills
• Comfort working with creative people as well as commercial teams
• Curiosity about people, culture, design and the world around you
• The ability to question briefs rather than simply execute them
• High attention to detail
• A bias towards making things happen
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who can understand why Mookuthi exists before deciding what Mookuthi should say.
What success looks like
Over time, the Brand Manager should help us create a Mookuthi that is more recognisable without becoming predictable, more widely known without becoming generic, and commercially stronger without losing the sensitivity that makes the brand what it is.
The ambition is not simply to market Mookuthi.
- It is to build a world people want to enter.
