About the role

The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), under the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Government of India, is inviting applications from Indian citizens for 6 research positions for the NMHS (National Mission on Himalayan Studies) funded project on 'Assessing the Potential Health of Indian Himalayan Peatland through Long-term Monitoring of Eukaryotic Microbial Community and Carbon Dynamics'. The project will be executed in various districts of Arunachal Pradesh, West Kameng, and Sikkim (West Sikkim, East Sikkim, North Sikkim, South Sikkim) as well as at the ZSI headquarters in Kolkata or other locations as per project requirements. Details of Vacancies: Senior Research Fellow (SRF) - 1 Post Salary: Rs. 42,000/- per month + HRA Qualification: M.Sc. degree in Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Bio-informatics, Environmental Science, or Life Sciences, and at least 2 years of research experience in the relevant field. Candidates who have published SCI articles or submitted Ph.D. thesis are also eligible. Desirable Skills: Field work experience in the Indian Himalayan region, molecular biology techniques, bryophyte taxonomy, data analytics (R, Python), GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS). Age Limit: 32 years (as on 30th May 2025). Job Description: Assist in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, NGS), sample collection, data documentation, and scientific publications. Junior Research Fellow (JRF) - 5 Posts Salary: For candidates qualified in CSIR/UGC NET, GATE, DBT-BET or other national-level exams: Rs. 37,000/- per month + HRA (30%). For others: Rs. 24,000/- per month + HRA (30%). Qualification: M.Sc. degree in Zoology, Botany, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Bio-informatics, Environmental Science, or Life Sciences, with at least 60% marks. Desirable Skills: Field work experience in the Himalayan region, molecular biology techniques, bryophyte taxonomy, soil and water chemistry analysis, data analytics in R and Python, knowledge of local languages. Age Limit: 28 years (as on 30th May 2025). Job Description: Assist in molecular biology techniques, soil and water chemistry analysis, field to lab sample transfer, data documentation, and preparation of scientific reports.
