About the role

Zachry Group is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Engineer I Electrical to apply general electrical engineering design practices while working with a Lead Engineer for guidance and detailed supervision.   Will perform non-routine and complex assignments involving assigned task with assistance from Senior Engineers as required.   Will have the ability to select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, and coordinate the work with the project team members for a successful design.   With assistance will review, analyze, and integrate the technical requirements and design approaches for the project.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a multidiscipline team to develop designs on small and large projects.
  • Ability to read and follow Customer design documents.
  • Assist Lead Engineer to develop budget requirements (i.e., time and materials) for proposed projects. 
  • Work with estimating team to assist in material and equipment estimates.
  • Participate in the development of construction/installation work packages. 
  • Coordinate design and engineering activities with other engineering mechanical and civil engineering disciplines.  
  • Working with Lead Engineer to develop and review project documents for conformity and quality assurance while adherence to applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Participate in constructability reviews for assigned project. 
  • Develop new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products for project execution. 
  • Provide support to field construction and commissioning activities during the installation process. 
  • Participate in Client design review meetings.
  • Assist in the development of oneline diagrams and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to maintain electrical engineering list such as load list, equipment list, and cable list.
  • Working with Lead Engineer to develop calculations and studies for the sizing of equipment, cables, raceways, ground grids, etc.
  • Design input for raceway systems including underground ductbanks, cable tray and above ground conduit.
  • Design input for lighting systems including interior, exterior and roadway lighting.
  • Design input for grounding systems.
  • Coordination with engineering and other crafts to assure a complete, coordinated design.
  • Work with Vendor documents for compliance with the purchase design documents.
  • Assist Lead Engineer with developing purchase specifications.
  • Provide Bid Reviews for the purchase of material, equipment and outside services.
  • Participate in equipment inspections to verify compliance with purchase design documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a 4 year ABET accredited college.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with Senior Company Leadership.
  • Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment and take direction from others.
  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with OTI ETAP software (or similar software) for Electrical Power System Analysis. 
  • Self-motivated Engineer that thrives on challenging tasks and has ambition to lead small teams or projects. 

Physical Demands

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.

Work Environment

Work will be in a general office environment operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment.  Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
