About the role

As a Program Leader, you have an opportunity to be a role model for children and to help to create a safe, fun environment for children to grow. You will work as a team member, supervising and interacting with children in a drop-in setting, as well as creating an environment that is safe and activity enriching. The Program Leader will also perform other duties and responsibilities assigned at will as seen fit by the Director.

SALARY RANGE: $20.00 - $25.00/hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Works with their supervisor to develop and implement age appropriate developmental curriculum.
  • Implement age-appropriate enrichment activities according to the weekly plan.
  • Model appropriate and constructive discipline.
  • Maintain a predetermined personal work schedule covering direct shift hours while the program is open.
  • Maintain a clean, fun and engaging environment inside the program while on duty.
  • Enforce safety and risk management standards outlined in YMCA training.
  • Keep an empowered sense of ownership to maintain quality and good condition of items and equipment in the program.
  • Exercise a flexibly responsible mentality when working within the program as not all situations will fit training scenarios.
  • Keep track of children using the program tracking system information sheet.
  • Keep open communication with parents and families as often as to possible give updates of children using the program.
  • Actively participate in and practice branch emergency drills as pertaining to the YMCA.
  • Has awareness and implements YMCA strategic and branch goals surrounding Youth Development, Healthy Living, Member Experience, and Social Responsibility.
  • Be actively engaged with the children in the program.
  • Uphold and enforce all branch and YMCA of Silicon Valley policies and procedures.

The physical demands of the position include:

  • Visual and auditory ability to observe and to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to climb, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 35 pounds.
