Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Leadership and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the CrossFit Instructor – Level 2 delivers advanced coaching and individualized programming to members of all fitness levels. This role supports the strategic growth of the CrossFit program through expert instruction, member engagement, and program promotion. Instructors at this level demonstrate strong leadership, serve as subject matter experts, and model personal and professional integrity in all interactions.

Essential Functions
• Lead a minimum of 2 CrossFit classes per week, offering safe, effective, and scalable workouts
tailored to a wide range of participants.
• Design individualized and small-group programs that reflect member goals, using advanced
principles of strength, conditioning, and mobility.
• Serve as a leader and mentor within the CrossFit program, promoting best practices in coaching,
safety, and member engagement.
• Ensure proper demonstration and explanation of all exercises; educate participants on form,
technique, and injury prevention.
• Promote the CrossFit program internally and externally to increase visibility, participation, and
community impact.
• Maintain accurate records for attendance, incidents, and other administrative needs; report safety concerns promptly.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and YMCA community events, including Annual Giving Campaign and wellness initiatives.
• Maintain current knowledge of CrossFit trends and general health/wellness topics through
continuing education and professional development.
• Exhibit a professional appearance and uphold YMCA standards for attire, behavior, and customer
service.
• Foster a culture of safety, inclusion, and excellence through direct engagement with members
and collaboration with peers.
Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Must hold a current CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) certification or higher.
• Minimum of three years of CrossFit coaching experience (averaging 2+ hours/week), or a four year degree in a health-related field, or equivalent education/certifications.
• Completion of all mandatory YMCA of Greater Charlotte trainings by required deadlines.
• Demonstrated expertise in exercise science, programming, and safe movement instruction.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a passion for helping others achieve their
goals.
• Ability to lead with confidence, motivate diverse groups, and adapt coaching to varied skill levels.
• Self-directed and reliable, with flexibility to work mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
• Strong customer service and member relationship-building skills.
• Basic computer proficiency (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Commitment to professional growth and maintaining personal health and fitness.
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Working Conditions
• Must be available to teach classes on varied schedules, including early mornings, evenings, and
weekends.
• Able to walk, stand, kneel, bend, lift, and move dynamically for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and exercise equipment.
• Ability to respond swiftly to emergencies; visual and auditory acuity required.
• Must be able to spot participants safely during workouts.
• Ability to input and access data on a computer for extended periods
