Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Leadership the CrossFit Instructor provides high-quality coaching and fitness instruction to individuals and groups. This role is responsible for developing safe, effective, and engaging CrossFit workouts that support members in achieving their personal health and fitness goals. Instructors must model healthy behaviors and promote a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment.

Essential Functions
• Design and lead safe, scalable CrossFit classes for participants of all fitness levels (minimum of 2
classes per week).
• Create individualized or small-group fitness plans based on client goals, incorporating strength,
flexibility, and cardiovascular training.
• Provide ongoing coaching, motivation, and technical feedback to members while maintaining a
strong focus on injury prevention and proper movement mechanics.
• Promote CrossFit programming and YMCA health initiatives to members and the broader
community to drive participation and awareness.
• Maintain accurate class records and complete administrative tasks, including attendance tracking
and incident reporting.
• Ensure compliance with all YMCA safety protocols and uphold cleanliness and equipment
maintenance standards.
• Stay current with industry knowledge through workshops, certifications, and continuing education.
• Attend all required YMCA staff meetings, trainings, and fundraising initiatives, including the
Annual Giving Campaign.
• Build strong relationships with members to support retention and promote overall wellness.
• Demonstrate professional conduct, maintain a neat appearance, and wear approved YMCA
uniform during shifts.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
• Current CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) Trainer Certification or higher.
• One or more of the following: at least one year of coaching experience averaging 2+ hours/week,
a 4-year degree in a health-related field, or additional fitness certifications.
• Completion of all mandatory YMCA of Greater Charlotte trainings by required deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build positive, trusting
relationships.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to work flexible hours based on client and branch needs.
• Strong customer service orientation with the ability to motivate, instruct, and support diverse
populations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and email communication.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and personal wellness.
All YMCA team members are expected to maintain a current and active status for all safety, risk, and
programming certifications defined by the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
Working Conditions
• Ability to teach classes during a variety of shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and move dynamically for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
• Ability to “spot” participants for safety during lifts and movements.
• Exposure to exercise equipment, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases.
• Ability to input data and use a computer or tablet for extended periods.
