About the role

The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), a member of the World Bank Group, is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Legal and Claims Department. MIGA is the political risk insurance and credit enhancement arm of the World Bank Group, supporting investments into developing countries to help drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve people's lives. MIGA has an active portfolio of guarantees and is expanding globally. In this role, you will: - Provide legal advice and drafting to support guarantee issuance and claims processing; - Work closely with other MIGA teams to assist with contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and policy development; - Analyze complex legal and financial structures and assist with the development of new guarantee products; - Stay up-to-date on legal, regulatory, and market developments in the trade and investment insurance industry and make recommendations accordingly; - Develop and deliver training on legal aspects of MIGA's operations. You will thrive in this role if you have: - At least 5-7 years of post-qualification experience practicing international investment, commercial, and project finance law, preferably with a focus on trade/investment insurance or credit enhancement; - Strong analytical, drafting, negotiation, and research skills, with the ability to provide practical and solutions-oriented advice; - Keen interest in emerging markets and development finance; - Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders; - Fluency in English; proficiency in another language is an advantage.
