About the role

The World Bank Group is seeking an Environmental Specialist, Biodiversity to join the Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy (ENB) Global Practice. The position will be based in Washington, DC, USA. The Environmental Specialist, Biodiversity will work as part of the Biodiversity team to promote and support the integration of biodiversity considerations into World Bank operations and help mainstream biodiversity in Country Partnership Frameworks and sectoral strategies. The Specialist will contribute to the development and implementation of biodiversity interventions and strategies, including nature-based solutions, and support the World Bank's biodiversity policy work. The key responsibilities will include: - Support the integration of biodiversity considerations into World Bank lending and non-lending operations, including through technical inputs, review of project documents, and capacity building. - Lead analytical work to generate biodiversity-relevant knowledge, including assessments, diagnostics, and analytical products. - Contribute to the development and implementation of the World Bank's biodiversity policy, strategy, and safeguards. - Represent the World Bank in global biodiversity fora and engage with partners to promote biodiversity mainstreaming. - Provide support and advice to World Bank teams, clients, and partners on biodiversity issues. The ideal candidate will have: - Advanced university degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, natural resource management, conservation biology). - At least 7 years of relevant professional experience, including experience working on biodiversity issues in a development context. - Strong technical expertise in biodiversity conservation, including knowledge of global and regional biodiversity trends, threats, and conservation approaches. - Demonstrated experience in mainstreaming biodiversity considerations into development projects and programs. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical information into actionable advice. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. - Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other languages, especially French or Spanish, is an asset.
