Working side-by-side with exceptional child instructors, you will provide the consistent, one-on-one or small-group guidance necessary to foster a safe and orderly learning environment. JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Instructional Assistant (Classroom, Kindergarten, and Special Education)
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Teacher/Building Principal/Special Education Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D. Certificate
- Experience in working with children
- A deep interest in working with specified target population
- Ability to perform assigned tasks
- Pass health examination
- Have no immoral or criminal history
- Have ability to work with other staff members and with children
DUTIES:
- Assist school personnel in providing an environment in which the children’s needs are met and to free the time of professional personnel from repetitious tasks in order that they might be more efficient
- Assist in clerical duties such as typing, filing, and completing reports
- In conjunction with the classroom teacher, will help prepare for class activities
- Work with individual students and small groups of students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher
- Serve as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher
- Guide sessions set up by the teacher
- Assist in developing class materials
- Assist with other classroom activities such as snacks, clothing, feeding, wash-up, and toileting
- Assist with lunch
- Assist in large group activities
- May assist in recording of student behaviors
- Alert classroom teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student
- Participate in in-service training as specified
- Assist the teacher in devising strategies for the reinforcement of the learning materials and for the devising of strategies for the development/maintenance of appropriate behaviors based upon the needs and performance level of the individual student
- Other duties as assigned by Teacher/Building Principal/Special Education Supervisor
