Role Description The Aquarium Curator is a full-time, on-site role based in New Delhi, responsible for overseeing the daily care, health, and presentation of aquatic animals and exhibits. Typical tasks include supervising feeding routines, monitoring animal behavior, coordinating veterinary consultations, and ensuring optimal water quality and habitat conditions in collaboration with technical staff. The curator plans and implements exhibit rotations, enrichment programs, and species introductions, maintaining accurate records of inventory, health assessments, and compliance with relevant regulations. The role also involves training and guiding aquarists, contributing to educational content for visitors, and working with leadership to support conservation initiatives, special events, and continuous improvement of guest experience. The Aquarium Curator is expected to maintain high standards of safety, ethical animal care, and teamwork while responding promptly to operational issues or emergencies.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in aquarium, zoological, or marine biology settings, with hands-on responsibility for aquatic animal care and exhibit management.
- Knowledge of freshwater and marine species husbandry, including nutrition, behavior monitoring, disease recognition, and habitat requirements.
- Familiarity with life support systems and water quality parameters (e.g., filtration, temperature, salinity, pH), and ability to collaborate with technical teams to maintain stable environments.
- Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills for documenting animal health, inventory, and regulatory compliance, with attention to detail and safety protocols.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with multidisciplinary teams, train staff, and interact professionally with visitors and external partners.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marine biology, zoology, animal science, environmental science, or a related field; advanced certifications in aquatic animal care are an asset.
- Ability to perform physically active work, including lifting equipment, working around water, and responding to off-hours emergencies when required.
