Job details:
Why We ExistMental health is an epidemic that’s getting worse day by day. Depression, anxiety, ADHD, suicide, and PTSD are at an all-time high. This needs to change. We humans were not made for this sort of life. We were never designed for the sedentary, indoor, socially isolated, fast-food-laden, sleep-deprived, frenzied pace of modern life. We are being robbed by the same tech that was meant to add value to our lives. It’s time for a change.
Our team at Mellow Labs is building the future of mental health by bridging the gaps between science and mental health. Our aim as an organization is to create systemic impact, especially in underrepresented populations. We are currently building for women’s brain health, as it’s an area with poor clinical and scientific validation.
1993 — the first-ever clinical trials were conducted on women.
1996 — the first-ever brain scans on women.
Only 1% of all brain scans represent a woman’s brain, and our team wants to change that by bringing neurotechnology to women to improve their mental health.
The Impact You’ll HaveThis isn’t an app that helps people order food faster. The product you build will sit at the intersection of neuroscience and daily life — helping women understand and improve their brain health in a field where they’ve been overlooked for decades. Every screen you ship, every hardware integration you get right, directly shapes whether someone gets insight into their own mind that medicine has never offered them before.
You’ll be one of the first designers on a product with the potential to close a decades-old gap in brain science. The stories flowing through your design could contribute to the largest effort yet to represent women’s brains in neuroscience — and the interface you design is how millions of women could first experience neurotechnology. Few designer roles let you draw a straight line from your commits to systemic change in mental health. This one does.
The Team You’ll JoinYou’ll work alongside a world-class mental health team — neuroscientists, clinicians, researchers, and engineers who have dedicated their careers to understanding the brain and closing the gender gap in brain health. This means your day-to-day includes conversations most developers never get to have: reviewing features with scientists who study the very signals your app displays, and building alongside people who deeply understand the problem you’re solving.
We’re a small, mission-driven team, which means your voice carries. You won’t be a ticket-taker — you’ll help shape the product, the architecture, and the company itself.
About the RoleWe're looking for a versatile Product Designer who will lead the development of the app design systems and to own the visual identity and user experience of our mobile application from end to end. This is a hands-on role for a designer who moves fluidly between product design and brand creative — shaping UX flows and UI frames one day, sketching characters, refining a logo, or bringing an interaction to life with animation the next. You'll set the creative direction and hold the bar for craft across everything users see and touch.
Your role is to bridge the gap between the mind, the face, and the feelings of our users to experience something remarkable.
What You'll Do- UX & UI design — Design intuitive, polished screens and frames for our mobile application, from wireframes and user flows through pixel-perfect final UI.
- Branding & creative leadership — Own and evolve our brand identity — logo design, color, typography, iconography, and visual language — and ensure it's applied consistently across the app and all creative output.
- Animation — Create motion for the product: micro-interactions, transitions, onboarding animations, and animated brand elements that make the app feel alive.
- Character design & illustration — Build original characters and illustrations, and develop them into expressive animations used throughout the product and marketing.
- Detail & polish — Sweat the details — spacing, alignment, states, edge cases, and finishing touches that separate a good app from a great one.
- Design systems & handoff — Maintain a design system of reusable components and styles, and hand off clear, developer-ready specs and assets.
- Collaboration — Work closely with product and engineering, iterate quickly on feedback, and champion design quality across the team.
What We're Looking For- Proven experience designing mobile applications (iOS and/or Android), with a portfolio showing shipped UX/UI work.
- Strong branding experience, including logo design and building or evolving a visual identity.
- Experience with animation and motion design — micro-interactions, character animation, or animated illustrations (e.g., After Effects, Lottie, Rive, or similar).
- Ability to draw and illustrate; comfortable creating original characters and visual assets from scratch.
- An exceptional eye for detail — you notice the one-pixel misalignment and can't leave it alone.
- Fluency in modern design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Ability to lead creative direction independently while collaborating well with non-designers.
- Strong communication skills and a portfolio you're proud to walk us through.
Nice to Have- Experience building or maintaining Lottie/Rive animations implemented in production mobile apps.
- Familiarity with mobile platform guidelines (Apple HIG, Material Design) and accessibility best practices.
- Experience creating marketing and social creative alongside product design.
- Basic understanding of developer handoff constraints in React Native or native mobile development.
How to ApplySend us your portfolio and a short note about a product or brand you designed that you're most proud of — and why. Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
