Role Overview
Coach, Capstones (Student Venture Support for AI Transformation Studio)
The Capstone team works closely with student entrepreneurs as they build, test, and execute ventures in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment. This role is designed for an seasoned professional who can combine strong execution, attention to detail, and empathy to support students through the realities of building.
The AI Transformation Studio is a semester-long capstone at Cornell Tech in New York, co-designed and co-delivered with Cornell Tech and TETR. In this studio, students identify AI-enabled opportunities within real industries, build working prototypes, validate them with behavioral evidence from real users, and present their ventures at Demo Day and the Capstone Celebration.
The Capstone Coach plays a central role in helping student teams move from broad ideas to sharper strategy, stronger execution, and real-world validation. This is a hands-on role for someone who can combine startup judgment, structured mentorship, and high standards to support a portfolio of student ventures through an intensive build cycle.
What you'll do
- Coach an assigned portfolio of student venture teams from opportunity identification to prototype, validation, and final presentation.
- Run regular one-on-one and small-group office hours to support progress, challenge thinking, and unblock execution.
- Help students break down complex startup, business, and AI concepts into practical next steps.
- Guide teams in selecting meaningful industry opportunities and understanding where AI can create real value.
- Push teams to validate ideas through behavioral evidence, not just stated interest, and maintain a high bar for proof of demand.
- Mentor teams on customer discovery, experiment design, prototype thinking, prioritization, venture positioning, and pitch readiness.
- Track the progress of assigned teams with a clear view of milestones, blockers, evidence quality, and overall trajectory.
- Work closely with faculty, industry advisors, and internal program stakeholders to ensure students receive timely, coherent support.
- Facilitate occasional teaching sessions, reviews, feedback discussions, or structured working sessions during modules and studio sprints.
- Prepare students for key capstone moments, including peer reviews, Demo Day, and the Capstone Celebration.
- Maintain academic rigour of the capstone program and grade student submissions.
