HR Generalist – People Operations (Solo HR Role, IT Services)
UnifyXperts · Goregaon, Mumbai · Full-time, on-site Reports to: Manan Shah, Founder & C.E.O. Experience: 3–6 years in HR generalist / people operations roles, ideally in a services or consulting firm under 50 people
About UnifyXperts
UnifyXperts is an ERPNext implementation partner working with US manufacturers and e-commerce businesses. We're a team of about 20 — functional consultants, developers, and support staff — and we're growing. Our clients trust us because we listen before we assume, keep things simple, and tell the truth even when it's uncomfortable. We expect the same inside the company.
This is our first dedicated people/HR role. You'll build much of it from scratch.
What you'll own
Hiring and staffing
- Build staffing plans with Manan and the delivery team: which roles we need, when, and why — tied to project pipeline, not guesswork.
- Source candidates for open roles: consultants, developers, interns. Write JDs, run outreach, screen resumes, coordinate interviews, and manage candidates from first contact to offer.
- Keep a warm bench: know where good ERPNext, finance, and supply-chain people are even when we're not hiring.
Retention and team health
- Keep a real-time read on team health — workload, growth, engagement — and act early rather than after the fact.
- Run regular one-on-one check-ins with team members across projects, openly, so everyone knows check-ins exist to make things better.
- Own the full employee lifecycle through to exit interviews, and feed what we learn back into how we work.
Culture and engagement
- Translate our operating principles — honesty, simplicity, customer-first, continuous improvement — into day-to-day team behavior. Culture here means how decisions get made and how people treat each other, not posters.
- Plan and run team activities: celebrations, offsites, learning sessions.
Policies and day-to-day operations
- Administer leave, half-day, and work-from-home requests in collaboration with each project's manager — the PM knows the delivery impact, you know the person and the policy.
- Propose improvements to leave and WFH policies to CEO; once approved, document them and apply them consistently.
- Maintain the employee handbook and keep HR records clean.
Performance and conflict
- Step into employee performance issues and interpersonal conflicts early. Hear both sides, get to the actual problem, and drive it to a resolution — a plan, a role change, or a hard conversation.
- Balance compassion with standards. We care about people and we hold a high bar; you'll need to do both in the same conversation.
What success looks like
In 3 months:
- Staffing plan exists and is reviewed monthly with CEO and delivery leads.
- Every open role has an active pipeline; time-to-fill is measured.
- You've met every team member one-on-one at least twice and review a clear picture of team health with the founder monthly.
- Leave and WFH requests run through a single documented process that team members and project managers both trust.
In 12 months:
- The people stay and grow here.
- You handle people matters end-to-end and bring the founder decisions, not problems.
- The team would describe you as someone they trust — and someone who doesn't let things slide.
Who thrives in this role
- You've done generalist HR in a small company where you were the whole HR function, or close to it.
- You're comfortable having direct conversations — with a strong performer who needs candid feedback, or with the founder when you disagree.
- You keep confidences. People will tell you things; the team's trust in you is the whole job.
- You write clearly and document as you go — policies, notes from exit interviews, staffing plans.
- Familiarity with Indian labour law basics (leave entitlements, notice periods, PF/ESI) is expected; you don't need to be a lawyer.
What we offer
- A ground-floor people role in a growing firm — you define how HR works here.
- Direct access to the founder and real authority over the areas you own.
- To apply: send your resume and a short note (not a cover letter — three or four sentences) on the hardest people problem you've handled and what you did, to manan@unifyxperts.com.
