About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer specializing in Java backend development to join our Operations & Technology Fraud Products team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing Mastercard’s Decision Management Platform, which forms the backbone of our fraud detection and cardholder verification solutions. The platform processes billions of transactions monthly with high speed and reliability, utilizing a multi-tiered, message-oriented architecture designed for high performance and availability. Your expertise will contribute to building industry-leading fraud prevention solutions, ensuring the security and integrity of Mastercard’s transaction ecosystem. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including technical leads and vendor partners, to design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-quality systems that meet evolving business needs. Additionally, you will play a key role in driving innovation through proof of concepts, adopting new technologies, and ensuring best practices across the development lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Overall career experience of 8-12 years in Software Engineering with a focus on Java development.
- Proven ability to take ownership of projects, learn rapidly, and adapt to changing requirements.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience influencing teams and stakeholders to drive decision-making and unblock delivery.
- Deep understanding of service and platform-level system design, including distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and advanced design patterns such as dependency injection and lazy loading.
- Hands-on experience with open frameworks like Spring Boot and expertise in Java, gRPC, and backend service development for scalable, high-performance applications.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud platforms, particularly AWS, including cloud-native architectures and migration strategies.
- Experience working with relational databases (Oracle) and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra.
- Knowledge of Business Rule Management Systems like IBM ODM, messaging technologies such as MQ and Kafka.
- Ability to lead design discussions, review code, and enforce engineering standards and best practices.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, automated testing, and secure coding standards (OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT).
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver high-quality software solutions aligned with business requirements, adhering to Mastercard’s standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with technical leads and cross-functional teams to assist in system design, implementation, and integration efforts.
- Drive the adoption of UI technologies and practices across teams to enhance user experience and interface consistency.
- Provide expert support for production issues, troubleshooting incidents, and resolving problems efficiently.
- Participate in full software development lifecycle activities, including requirements gathering, technical design, performance benchmarking, deployment planning, and documentation.
- Lead and coordinate offshore development teams, managing daily activities to ensure timely delivery and quality standards.
- Engage in proof of concept initiatives, vendor evaluations, and technology selection processes to foster continuous innovation.
- Conduct knowledge transfer sessions, technical training, and mentorship to team members to promote skill development and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation to enhance development efficiency and quality.
- Perform requirements and design reviews, peer code reviews, and security assessments to ensure compliance with Mastercard’s security policies and standards.
- Actively participate in Agile SAFe ceremonies, including discovery and elaboration sessions, to ensure alignment with project goals and stakeholder expectations.
