Role Objective
Lead the process engineering and repeatable production of hydrogen peroxide-based green monopropellant, converting validated laboratory formulations into controlled, safe, and well-documented manufacturing processes that consistently deliver flight-grade propellant.
The role is responsible for translating propellant chemistry and formulation requirements into robust process definitions, batch records, equipment specifications, and in-process controls required for reliable propellant production and supply.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Propellant Process Engineer to join our growing aerospace organization facility in Navi Mumbai, with strong expertise in chemical process operations, scale-up of reactive chemistry, and process documentation.
This role focuses on the production side of the propellant programme, including hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) oxidizerpurification and characterization, propellant blending, filtration, storage, and transfer, along with the batch records, SOPs, and quality controls that make every batch traceable and reproducible.
You will work at the intersection of process engineering, propellant chemistry, and quality, ensuring that validated formulations are safely and consistently produced at pilot and production scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and optimize the end-to-end production process for liquid propellant, covering purification, blending, filtration, transfer, and packaging, and scale it from laboratory to pilot and production quantities.
- Develop, execute, and improve high-test hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) oxidizer purification and characterization processes, defining acceptance limits against applicable specifications and internal standards.
- Author and maintain blending SOPs and process flow diagrams (P&ID), defining process parameters, sequence of operations, and critical control points.
- Establish and maintain batch manufacturing records that make every production batch fully traceable, from raw material to finished propellant, with defined operator and approver sign-offs.
- Select, size, and validate filtration and fluid-handling components, defining ratings, flow limits, and cleanliness acceptance criteria.
- Translate formulation windows into production set-points and control limits that reliably meet target performance.
- Establish in-process and release quality-control methods in collaboration with the QA/QC team.
- Specify, commission, and maintain process equipment and storage systems, ensuring material compatibility and contamination control.
- Conduct process hazardassessments such as HAZOP and FMEA, and implement engineering and administrative controls, safe operating envelopes, and emergency-response procedures for reactive-chemical operations, including propellant hazard classification and safe handling and storage.
- Prepare process documentation and reports coveringprocess design, batchrecords, and results, and present these clearly for project and production reviews.
- Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams (propellant chemistry and formulation, QA/QC, design, and manufacturing) and manage vendors and suppliers for raw materials, equipment, and components, covering specification, qualification, and incoming-quality acceptance.
Experience & Background
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in ChemicalEngineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
- 0 to 3 years of hands-on experience in chemical process operations, scale-up, or production, preferably involving reactive fluids, oxidizers, or hazardous chemicals.
- Hands-on experience with formulation make-up, including accurate metering, controlled mixing sequence, and homogeneity and quality verification of reactive mixtures.
- Working knowledge of processequipment and instrumentation such as reactors, blending vessels, purification units, filtration, pumps, and transfer systems.
- Familiarity with hazard-analysis methodologies such as HAZOP and FMEA, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
- Understanding of oxidizer chemistry, particularly high-test hydrogen peroxide(H₂O₂), decomposition behaviour, and stabilization principles is an advantage.
- Experience with quality-control methods and with data-analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, Origin, or equivalent.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- A process-minded engineer focusedon repeatability, traceability, and control.
- Ability to translate formulations and chemical or material constraints into robust, documented, and safe production processes and operating procedures.
- Strong ownership and discipline around batch records,SOPs, and specifications.
- Rigorous about safety in reactive-chemical operations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, result-oriented environment and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience takinga chemical processfrom laboratory to pilot or production scale, including process definition, batch records, and SOP development.
