The role
This is a Staff-level individual contributor role on a small, high-ownership design team. You'll lead design across core consumer product areas with direct revenue impact, working within a cross-functional pod of product and engineering. At this level, you're expected to shape product direction — not just execute on it. The work spans zero-to-one product building, fast iterative experimentation, and raising the quality and strategic thinking of the team around you.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end design for high-impact consumer product areas — from discovery and problem definition through to shipped and measured outcomes
- Drive design strategy within your pod, influencing product roadmap and prioritisation decisions alongside PM and engineering leadership
- Lead conversion-focused experimentation, using data to inform and validate design direction
- Identify friction points across user flows and deliver concrete, well-reasoned improvements tied to measurable metrics
- Set a high bar for craft — interaction detail, visual polish, and content design — and hold that standard across the team
- Communicate design decisions clearly and persuasively to cross-functional partners and senior leadership
- Mentor and elevate the work of other designers on the team
What We're Looking For
- 7–10 years of product design experience, with the majority on direct-to-consumer digital products
- At least 2 years at a venture-funded startup in the last 4 years
- A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership — discovery through shipped — with clear evidence of business impact
- Strong conversion and funnel design instincts; you understand what drives users through a flow and what causes drop-off
- Experience influencing product strategy and roadmap, not just delivering designs to spec
- Track record of working through ambiguity in a fast-moving, experiment-driven environment
- Proficiency in Figma, with a high standard for interaction and visual design quality
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech, insurtech, or other high-stakes consumer products
- Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation frameworks
- Experience operating as the most senior designer in a small team
