Head of Engineering & BIM
The position will be based in Chennai. Applicants must either be currently available in Chennai or willing to relocate.
Position Overview
A leading regional contractor is seeking an experienced Head of Engineering & BIM to provide strategic and operational leadership across its MEP engineering, BIM, and digital engineering functions.
The successful candidate will lead multi-location engineering teams supporting major projects across the GCC. The role will focus on excellence in engineering, design coordination, BIM governance, digital delivery, constructability, and the consistent execution of projects from pre-construction through completion and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organisation’s engineering, BIM, and digital engineering functions across multiple projects and locations.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies, technical standards, BIM protocols, and digital delivery processes.
- Provide senior technical oversight for MEP design, multidisciplinary coordination, constructability, value engineering, and design risk management.
- Oversee engineering delivery from tender and pre-construction through procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and handover.
- Ensure effective model coordination, clash detection, information management, and compliance with project BIM requirements.
- Establish appropriate engineering governance, design review, quality assurance, and performance-monitoring processes.
- Work closely with project, commercial, planning, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
- Manage technical engagement with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and relevant authorities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop geographically distributed engineering and BIM teams.
- Drive standardisation, innovation, digital adoption, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the project portfolio.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, or a related engineering discipline.
- Approximately 15–18 years of progressive experience in MEP engineering, BIM, and digital engineering.
- Proven senior leadership experience within a large contractor or major construction organisation.
- Mandatory experience delivering complex projects within the GCC region.
- Strong understanding of GCC construction practices, regulations, authority requirements, and project-delivery environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading multi-location, multidisciplinary, and distributed engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of BIM implementation, digital workflows, design coordination, engineering assurance, constructability, and value engineering.
- Experience managing engineering activities throughout the complete project lifecycle.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder-management, communication, and commercial-awareness skills.
- Chartered Engineer status and knowledge of ISO 19650 would be advantageous.
- Must be currently based or available in Chennai, or willing to relocate to Chennai and be permanently based there.
- Willingness to travel periodically to GCC project sites and regional offices, as required.
