Senior Backend & Infrastructure Engineer (Security-First)

About the Role
FamCare is building the infrastructure that connects families with caregivers across India. We're looking for a senior backend engineer who can own our entire backend and cloud infrastructure end-to-end — someone who thinks like a founding engineer, not just a contributor. You'll be the single point of accountability for how our systems are built, secured, and scaled.
This is a high-ownership role at an early-stage startup. You'll work directly with the Technical Lead and have full autonomy over architecture decisions, with the expectation that you bring senior judgment from having built and secured systems at scale before.
What You'll Own
Backend architecture: Design, build, and maintain our FastAPI-based backend services from the ground up
End-to-end cloud infrastructure: Full lifecycle ownership — provisioning, deployment, monitoring, scaling, and cost optimization across our cloud environment
Authentication & authorization: Design and maintain robust JWT-based auth systems, session management, and access control
Security: Own our security posture end-to-end — threat modeling, vulnerability management, secure coding practices, data protection, and compliance readiness (especially relevant given we handle sensitive family and caregiver data)
AI security: Bring a strong security lens to our AI/LLM systems — securing model endpoints, preventing prompt injection and data leakage, managing API keys/secrets for AI services, and ensuring safe integration of AI features into production
DevOps: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, and observability tooling
Incident response: Be the go-to person when something breaks in production — diagnose, fix, and put safeguards in place
What We're Looking For
2-3 years of backend engineering experience, with real ownership of production systems (not just feature work)
Strong hands-on experience with Python and FastAPI (or equivalent async Python frameworks)
Proven experience owning cloud infrastructure end-to-end (AWS preferred) — not just using it, but architecting and managing it
Deep, practical understanding of JWT auth, OAuth flows, and session security
Experience working in a large company backend environment at some point in your career — you've seen what "at scale" and "secure by design" actually look like
Genuine security expertise — this isn't a "security as an afterthought" role; you should be able to think like an attacker
Solid DevOps fundamentals: Docker, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CDK), monitoring/alerting
Comfort working with or securing AI/LLM-powered systems in production
Startup mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, moving fast, and wearing multiple hats
Nice to Have
Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other data-sensitive domains
Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, DPDP Act)
Experience mentoring or building out an engineering team
