Job details:
ABOUT THE ROLE
Head of Engineering- Bengaluru.
PENN AERO GROUP a US-headquartered aerospace components manufacturer — is establishing an India Engineering Center to support its US design and manufacturing operations. This is a build-from-scratch leadership mandate.
The Head of Engineering will hire and develop the engineering team, establish working processes with the US organisation, and own delivery of design, tooling and qualification work for aerospace fastening products.
The role reports to the US-based VP of Engineering and requires a hands-on aerospace-fastener design and manufacturing-engineering leader who can operate to Western aerospace quality standards within an ITAR/EAR-compliant offshore model.
ABOUT PENNAERO GROUP
PennAero is a Tinicum-backed aerospace platform and a leading manufacturer of highly engineered fasteners and precision-machined components for critical aerospace, defence, space and advanced-energy applications, serving Boeing, Airbus and other major OEMs.
Formed in 2024 through the combination of PMI, Briles Aerospace and American Drilling Company, the Group significantly expanded its fastener design and engineering capabilities in March 2026 with the acquisition of TriMas Aerospace — adding trusted brands including Monogram Aerospace Fasteners, Allfast Fastening Systems, Mac Fasteners and TFI Aerospace.
PMI Engineering Exports Pvt. Ltd. (India) is a PennAero Group company, and the India Engineering Center will operate as an extension of the Group's US engineering organisation.
ROLE PURPOSE
To establish and lead the India Engineering Center as a high-capability extension of the client's US engineering organisation — owning the design, tooling and qualification of aerospace fastening products, building and mentoring the team, and embedding the processes, governance and technical-data controls required to deliver reliably across US time zones.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Centre Build-Up & Leadership
- Hire, develop and mentor the India engineering team across design, tooling and qualification; establish the organisation structure and capability roadmap.
- Establish working processes, governance and communication cadence with the US engineering organisation; own throughput, quality and on-time delivery.
- Train and calibrate the team to Western aerospace quality standards and the client's engineering practices.
Product & Design Engineering
- Lead product design of blind rivets, blind bolts, lockbolts and threaded fasteners to industry and OEM standards (NAS, MS/NASM).
- Own forming-progression design and the translation of product requirements into manufacturable, qualifiable designs.
Tooling & Process Engineering
- Direct header and die tooling design, thread rolling, and carbide / tool-steel tooling development; apply forming simulation where available.
- Develop fixtures, tooling and process methods that improve dimensional accuracy, repeatability and yield.
Materials & Qualification
- Apply materials fluency across nickel superalloys, titanium, PH stainless steels and aerospace aluminiums, including heat-treat and finishing considerations.
- Own qualification: first-article inspection, specification qualification testing (shear, tensile, fatigue) and OEM product-approval processes.
Collaboration & Compliance
- Operate an ITAR/EAR-compliant offshore engineering model with rigorous technical-data segregation.
- Act as the primary India engineering interface to the US VP of Engineering and cross-functional partners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Education — BE / BTech in Mechanical Engineering required;
- Experience — 15–20 years in aerospace fastener design and manufacturing engineering, including 5+ years leading engineering teams.
- Fastener design — Demonstrable product-design experience with blind rivets, blind bolts, lockbolts and threaded fasteners to NAS and MS/NASM standards.
- Trajectory — Career started hands-on — shop floor, tooling, or test lab — before progressing into design leadership.
- Leadership — Proven experience building teams, training to Western aerospace quality standards, and working effectively across US time zones.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Cold forming & tooling — Forming-progression design, header and die tooling, thread rolling, carbide / tool-steel tooling design; forming simulation a plus.
- Aerospace materials — Nickel superalloys, titanium, PH stainless steels, aerospace aluminiums; heat-treat and finishing.
- Qualification — First-article inspection, specification qualification testing (shear, tensile, fatigue), OEM approval processes.
- GD&T & CAD — Strong GD&T; proficiency in SolidWorks, NX or CATIA.
- Compliance — Familiarity with ITAR/EAR-compliant offshore engineering models and technical-data segregation.
LEADERSHIP & BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
- Team building and talent development; ability to attract and grow specialist fastener-engineering talent.
- Cross-cultural, remote collaboration and disciplined communication across time zones.
- Ownership, quality-first mindset, and rigour in standards and technical-data governance.
