Industries: Software Development
Job details:
Now: You want to be a part of the journey of growing a startup from 500,000 check-ins/sign-ins a month to 5 million check-ins a month. You feel like your dying inside if you haven't shipped code in 5 days.
Next: There's a part of you, deep down, that wants to build, make an impact and be a critical part of a software project that 1/3 people in the US and 1/7 people in the world will depend on.
We are on a mission, to build a product, and a business that most of the world is going to depend on. We are taking on the sign-in & digital attendance process for universities, schools, governments, and many other types of businesses.
We are a small and very tightly curated team of 5, our work (software) can be found in all parts of the world -- visit a random city and there's likely a user who is using it. We have a very distinct taste, and strong philosophies on engineer & business.
About the Role We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on Engineering Lead to take complete ownership of our technical stack, product architecture, and engineering team. As the founder transitions out of day-to-day technical operations, you will be the trusted leader responsible for driving code quality, making high-level architectural decisions, and mentoring our junior engineering team.
Stack
NodeJS + Express
React JS
React Native
MongoDB
HTML, JS, CSS Fundamentals
Swift, must know swift UI and foundations of class based programming
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary decision-maker for all software architecture, database design, and infrastructure management.
- Team Mentorship & Management: Lead, mentor, and level up our team of junior engineers through rigorous code reviews, pair programming, and setting clear engineering standards.
- Code Quality & Best Practices: Establish and enforce best practices for clean code, technical debt management (knowing when to delete code), and efficient deployments.
- Security & Infrastructure: Proactively monitor, identify, and resolve security vulnerabilities while ensuring our infrastructure is scalable, stable, and well-maintained.
- Hands-on Development: Write clean, production-ready code for our most complex features and core logic while delegating effectively to the wider team.
Who You Are
- An Autonomous Owner: You thrive in high-trust environments and can take a high-level product goal and independently architect the technical solution.
- A Standard-Bearer: You have a deep understanding of what "good code" looks like and the patience to teach those standards to junior developers.
- A Pragmatic Problem Solver: You balance technical perfection with business needs, knowing when to build for scale and when to ship fast.
- Highly Experienced: You have 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience, with a proven track record in a senior, lead, or architectural role.
Your all the way at the end. Well, this is a good sign (hopefully your not an AI, or maybe your a really really smart engineer with multi-agent orchestraor setup).
Here's a hack to skip the line, email me with these -
- Describe the most difficult architectural or infrastructure problem you have personally solved. At what exact moment did you get completely stuck, and what specific steps did you take to break through?
- Tell me about a time you intentionally wrote 'bad' or inefficient code, or accumulated technical debt on purpose. Why did you do it, and what was the outcome?
- Has there been a time time you deleted more code than you pushed? Why?
- Tell me about a time you ripped out a major system or feature or refactored a large feature
- Where's the world of software going? And what part do you want to play in it, in the next 5-10 years.
