Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Chief Engineer role based in Mumbai. The Chief Engineer will lead the vessel’s engineering department, overseeing operation, maintenance, and repair of all propulsion and auxiliary machinery, electrical systems, and safety-critical equipment. Responsibilities include planning and supervising routine and preventive maintenance, managing engine room crew, monitoring fuel and lubricants, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The role involves maintaining accurate technical records, coordinating with shore-based technical teams, supporting audits and inspections, and contributing to continuous improvement in vessel performance and energy efficiency.
Qualifications
- Strong marine engineering expertise, including operation and maintenance of propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and engine room equipment.
- Proficiency in vessel safety, environmental regulations, and compliance with international maritime standards (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code).
- Experience in technical planning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Leadership and people management skills for supervising and mentoring engine room personnel and fostering a safety-focused culture.
- Effective communication and coordination abilities for working with deck officers, shore-based technical teams, and external inspectors.
- Relevant maritime engineering qualifications (e.g., Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency, STCW-compliant certifications) and prior experience as Chief Engineer or senior engineering officer on commercial vessels.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform under operational and time constraints.
- Willingness to adhere to company policies, participate in ongoing training, and adapt to new technologies and digital ship management tools.
