The Role
We are hiring a Founding Backend Engineer to help build and own our core financial infrastructure.
This is not a standard API-development role. You will work on systems responsible for moving, tracking, securing, and reconciling real money.
You will own critical backend workflows across bank linking, ACH deposits, transaction processing, ledgers, webhooks, recurring payments, reconciliation, and gift-card redemption.
You should be a strong backend engineer with experience building reliable distributed systems. Previous experience in fintech, payments, banking, wallets, marketplaces, or other transaction-heavy products is highly preferred.
What You Will Work On
- Build and maintain backend services in Go
- Design reliable money-movement and transaction workflows
- Integrate with banking, ACH, open-banking, ledger, KYC, and redemption providers
- Build recurring deposit and user mandate systems
- Implement transaction state machines for initiated, submitted, pending, completed, failed, and reversed transactions
- Build secure webhook processing with signature verification, deduplication, replay protection, and rate limiting
- Implement idempotent APIs, background workers, retries, and failure-recovery workflows
- Prevent duplicate withdrawals, credits, redemptions, and transaction processing
- Build reconciliation between payment providers, the ledger, and bank accounts
- Create audit trails, transaction histories, monitoring, and internal investigation tools
- Handle concurrency, partial failures, provider timeouts, and out-of-order events
- Improve the security of financial credentials, user sessions, provider tokens, and internal services
- Participate in architecture decisions, code reviews, testing, deployment, and production incident resolution
Required Experience
- 3–5 years of professional backend engineering experience
- Strong experience with Go, or significant backend experience in Java, Kotlin, Rust, or another strongly typed language with the ability to quickly become productive in Go
- Strong understanding of PostgreSQL, database transactions, indexing, locking, and data modeling
- Experience building APIs, webhooks, background workers, and asynchronous systems
- Strong understanding of idempotency, retries, queues, concurrency, and failure recovery
- Experience with Redis or similar caching and distributed-locking systems
- Experience using Docker and deploying services to AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, structured logging, monitoring, and alerting
- Ability to independently own backend systems from architecture through production
Preferred Experience
Experience in one or more of the following is highly preferred:
- Fintech, payments, banking, wallets, lending, brokerage, crypto, remittance, or marketplace infrastructure
- ACH payments, bank transfers, payouts, recurring payments, or open banking
- Double-entry ledgers or financial transaction systems
- Payment-provider integrations and reconciliation
- Transaction settlement, reversals, disputes, returns, and refunds
- KYC, identity verification, AML, fraud, or risk systems
- Webhook security, HMAC verification, replay protection, and encryption
- Systems handling sensitive financial or personal data
- Production incidents involving payments or financial transactions
Experience with our exact providers is not required.
