Position Summary
The IT Asset Management (ITAM) / CMDB Manager is responsible for leading the execution of enterprise IT asset and configuration data management processes. This role oversees a team responsible for software asset management (SAM), audit coordination, entitlement validation, and CMDB data integrity within ServiceNow.
The manager provides both hands-on technical support and leadership oversight, ensuring the accuracy of asset data, successful audit outcomes, and continuous improvement of ITAM processes.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Delivery Oversight
- Lead and manage a team responsible for:
- Software audit support and data collection
- Entitlement validation and licensing compliance activities
- ServiceNow SAM and CMDB data management
- Assign and prioritize workload across team members to meet audit and operational deadlines
- Provide guidance, quality control, and escalation support for complex data or audit issues
ITAM / SAM Program Execution
- Oversee execution of software asset management processes, including:
- Audit support activities (e.g., IBM and other vendor audits)
- License compliance validation and data collection
- Coordination with internal stakeholders and external partners
- Ensure consistency, completeness, and timeliness of audit deliverables
CMDB Data Governance & Quality
- Own CMDB data quality initiatives, including:
- Data reconciliation between ServiceNow and source systems
- Identification and remediation of data gaps and inconsistencies
- Drive alignment between CMDB records and technical team inputs
- Support reporting accuracy for downstream ITSM, audit, and financial processes
Reporting & Analytics Oversight
- Oversee development and delivery of ITAM/CMDB reporting and analytics
- Ensure accurate, actionable insights are provided to support:
- Audit readiness
- Asset visibility
- Decision-making
- Provide direction on data analysis efforts related to configuration items and asset records
Hands-On Technical Contribution
- Actively participate in operational work when needed, including:
- Data analysis and validation
- Report creation and review
- Troubleshooting complex CMDB or entitlement issues
- Support critical activities during audit cycles or high-priority initiatives
Stakeholder & Vendor Coordination
- Serve as a primary point of contact between ITAM/SAM team, internal IT stakeholders, and external vendors
- Communicate audit requirements, risks, and progress to leadership
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve data issues and improve processes
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in ITAM, SAM, CMDB, or related IT operations roles
- Proven experience leading or coordinating teams in a technical or operational environment
- Strong working knowledge of ServiceNow (SAM, CMDB, or ITAM modules)
- Experience supporting software license audits and compliance initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing vendor audits (e.g., IBM, Oracle, SAP)
- Knowledge of CMDB governance, reconciliation, and data modeling (e.g., CSDM)
- Experience working with third-party SAM partners (e.g., Anglepoint)
