Fractional CXO – Payments Technology / Senior Payments Technical Architect
Location: Noida preferred, with remote flexibility
Engagement: Fractional | 2–3 days per week | Initial 6–12 months

About the Opportunity
We are looking for a senior Payments Technical Architect to join our Client who's an AI-native payments infrastructure company as a Fractional CXO.
The mandate is to ensure that every product is architected correctly from the beginning — with scalability, certification, security and regulatory compliance designed into the platform from line one, rather than retrofitted later.
The Profile We Need
- 15+ years of payments architecture experience across issuing, acquiring and processing.
- Proven experience personally architecting card and wallet platforms that have been taken into production at scale.
- Deep EMVCo expertise, including:
- Contact and contactless kernels
- Tokenisation
- 3-D Secure
- EMVCo certification
- PCI DSS Level 1
- RuPay, Visa and Mastercard certification cycles
- Strong UPI and India Stack expertise, including:
- NPCI switch integration
- UPI issuing and acquiring flows
- NCMC / transit
- Aadhaar eKYC
- Account Aggregator
- BBPS
- Strong understanding of RBI-regulated environments, including:
- PPI Master Directions
- PA-PG guidelines
- Escrow architecture
- Reconciliation
- Data-sovereignty requirements
- Technology requirements supporting RBI licence applications
- Deep transaction performance engineering expertise, including:
- Sub-200ms P99 authorisation design
- High-throughput transaction processing
- Burst handling for peak loads
- Failover
- Idempotency
- Real-time reconciliation
- High availability at payments scale
- Strong AI-native engineering orientation, with the ability to architect for AI-assisted engineering and 6–8 week spec-to-GA product cycles.
- Experience with multi-tenant, API-first and cloud-native platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Ratify and evolve the platform architecture across all product lines.
- Architect a single data layer, shared ledger and shared KYC services, with multi-currency and multi-tenant capabilities designed from day one.
- Lead build-vs-buy decisions and vendor evaluations across:
- Issuer processors
- FRM / AML providers
- KYC providers
- Payment switches
- Gateway processors
- Own the technical due diligence of technology and platform vendors.
- Define and drive the EMVCo, NPCI and PCI DSS certification roadmap, aligned with product launches and regulatory licence milestones.
- Work closely with the Head of Technology on architecture reviews.
- Institutionalise Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and design standards that can be carried forward by the technology team.
- Help ensure the technology architecture is aligned with the company's payments infrastructure, product roadmap and regulatory requirements.
Engagement Structure
Fractional: 2–3 days per week
Initial tenure: 6–12 months
Location: Noida presence preferred, with remote flexibility
Reporting: Dual reporting to the CTSO, with a dotted line to the Founder
Confidentiality: NDA and strict confidentiality required due to the company's stealth-stage operations.

This opportunity is suited to a senior payments technology leader who has personally architected and scaled real-world payments platforms and can operate at the intersection of payments technology, architecture, certification, performance and RBI regulatory requirements.
