Our mission is to build a sustainable economy where everyone can prosper by providing secure, simple, smart, and accessible digital payment solutions. Through innovative technology, strategic partnerships, and extensive networks, Mastercard offers a diverse range of products and services that enable people, businesses, and governments to realize their full potential. Our dedication to security, innovation, and inclusion positions us at the forefront of shaping the future of digital payments and financial services.
About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer / Solution Architect to join our dynamic team focused on developing modern, real-time decisioning platforms for fraud analysis and prevention. In this pivotal role, you will define and lead the architecture for a customer-facing platform within the Decision Management Platform (DMP), specifically concentrating on the Decision Products UI (DPUI), also known internally as The Fraud Center. This platform plays a critical role in enabling real-time fraud detection and prevention, supporting analyst workflows, and integrating seamlessly with other components of the DMP ecosystem.
The successful candidate will own the API, service, data, and integration architecture for DPUI, working closely with the UI Architect to ensure alignment with user interface strategies. Your expertise will shape the technical direction, architecture strategy, and governance, ensuring the platform remains secure, scalable, resilient, and compliant with enterprise and regulatory standards. Collaborating with cross-functional teams including product managers, UX designers, engineers, and operations, you will guide modernization efforts, implement customer enhancements, and develop new capabilities that support evolving business needs.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing and architecting large-scale, high-performance distributed systems within complex enterprise environments. Strong communication skills are essential to articulate architectural decisions clearly and foster alignment across teams. You should possess a proven track record of leading technical initiatives, supporting engineering teams through design and implementation phases, and managing trade-offs effectively. Experience working closely with product teams to develop solution roadmaps and align architecture with business priorities is critical.
Technical proficiency should include expertise in distributed systems, API and service design, microservices architecture, and modern backend development. Familiarity with cloud-native technologies such as containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and hybrid cloud environments is required. Knowledge of relational and operational data technologies, including Oracle and PostgreSQL, along with experience supporting modernization and migration projects, is highly desirable. Additionally, familiarity with fraud detection, decisioning platforms, and high-volume transaction processing will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture design for the DPUI API, services, and data layers, ensuring they support analyst workflows, real-time interactions, and integration with the broader DMP platform.
- Define target-state solutions and guide the design of applications across event review, case management, report management, rules, and operational workflows.
- Shape architecture strategies across APIs, microservices, databases, and integration patterns to support scalable, resilient, high-performance transaction processing.
- Create comprehensive architecture deliverables to facilitate decision-making, governance, and alignment with project timelines.
- Drive architecture decisions to closure, balancing long-term strategic goals with immediate delivery needs, platform stability, and customer requirements.
- Collaborate with product teams and the UI Architect to develop solution roadmaps, define transition states, and prioritize technical initiatives aligned with business objectives.
- Provide technical leadership through design reviews, implementation guidance, and support to engineering teams during delivery phases.
- Coordinate with engineering, UX, operations, and subject matter experts to ensure cohesive, supportable, and standards-compliant solutions.
- Participate in architecture governance, assurance, and review processes, ensuring designs are well-documented, traceable, and ready for implementation.
- Partner with peer architects to promote consistency across the platform estate and support architectural best practices.
- Mentor emerging architects, fostering growth in architectural capabilities and strengthening technical decision-making across teams.
- Identify opportunities for platform improvements that enhance speed to market, operational efficiency, and long-term maintainability.
