Role Description The Site Engineer role at IIT Chennai is a full-time, remote position responsible for overseeing and coordinating civil and structural engineering activities for assigned projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing engineering drawings and specifications, monitoring project progress through digital tools, and ensuring that construction activities comply with quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The Site Engineer will collaborate with on-site teams, contractors, and project stakeholders, providing technical guidance and clarifications, and preparing regular status reports and documentation. The role also involves supporting project planning, risk assessment, and problem-solving to address design or execution issues in a timely and efficient manner.
Qualifications
- Civil engineering and structural engineering skills, with the ability to interpret and review technical drawings and specifications
- On-site coordination and quality control skills, including monitoring work standards and ensuring compliance with project requirements
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with civil engineers, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution
- Experience in construction or infrastructure projects, preferably involving institutional or large-scale facilities
- Familiarity with industry standards, safety regulations, and relevant codes of practice
- Ability to work independently in a remote setup, manage multiple tasks, and use project management and collaboration software
- Detail-oriented approach, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to ethical and inclusive professional practices
